West Briar MS School Updates: Week 9
Principal's Message
Last week ended with West Briar participating in the Westside HS Homecoming parade and many of our 8th grade students getting to watch. Our very own West Briar Cheerleaders and Dance Company also did an outstanding job performing in the parade! See below for some calendar updates for this week and the end of October.

- PSAT 8- Thurs, 10/21- 8th grade only- all 8th graders will take the PSAT 8 during the school day. Testing will begin as close to 9:30am as possible.

Fall Picture Day- Mon, October 18th

Students must be in dress code on this date, however are allowed to bring a school-appropriate out of dress code top for their pictures. They will simply return to their dress code following their picture time.
School Appropriate Dress Code Guidelines
- Shirts- must have sleeves and cannot be sheer or low-cut
- Shirts- do not have to be grade-level color or solid
- Clothing may not have ornamentation which is disruptive or offensive.
Sandy Hook Promise Student Training
The Sandy Hook- Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) is a free program that teaches middle and high school youth (and the adults around them) how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others. It teaches them to Say Something to a trusted adult or use the Say Something anonymous reporting system.
The SS-ARS program is being provided through the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), a nation-wide non-profit organization. SHP's programs are in 50 states- with 7,000+ schools and over 3.5 million students and adults trained. The program is age-appropriate and research-based.

Friday, Oct 22: Pink Out Day
In order to wear a Pink top and Jeans on this day, students must:
- Purchase a Pink Wristband for $5 during lunch.
- Wristbands will be available for purchase Tuesday-Thursday during all 3 lunches.
Wristband must be worn on the 22nd as proof of participation to wear a Pink top. All proceeds will go to Pink Ribbon Inc- a non-profit network/international charity platform- accredited research focused on the origins of breast cancer pinkribbon.org .

The Socioeconomic Information Form can be completed on paper or through the HISD Connect Parent Portal.

- Another paper form will be sent home with students still needing them completed this week and should be returned to the Front Desk or a House Secretary.

#Grizzly Values Challenge
Students who have been making right choices and displaying #GrizzlyValues, will be randomly selected to have Patio Lunch for the entire week. Each week students are selected to sit outside on the patio during all three lunches. In order to qualify for Patio Lunch, students cannot have any disciplinary infractions within that Cycle.

7th & 8th Boys Basketball Tryouts
Boys basketball tryouts will be held 10/28/21 from 4pm-6pm in both Gyms.

Wrestling Team Reminder
Note from Coach Coulter:
All boys & girls that are planning to join the West Briar 2021-2022 Wrestling Team must make sure that they have completed their Physical. Fees should also be turned into Coach Coulter. Also make sure that all necessary equipment- shoes, head gear, etc.- will also be needed before the November first practice date (less than 2 weeks away).
