Sandy Hook Promise Student Training

On Thursday, Oct 21st, all West Briar students will receive training on the Sandy Hook Promise- Say Something initiative. This presentation is required of all HISD students and introduces students to the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System. (HISD Say Something Program Details- including Parent Guide)

The Sandy Hook- Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) is a free program that teaches middle and high school youth (and the adults around them) how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others. It teaches them to Say Something to a trusted adult or use the Say Something anonymous reporting system.

The SS-ARS program is being provided through the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), a nation-wide non-profit organization. SHP's programs are in 50 states- with 7,000+ schools and over 3.5 million students and adults trained. The program is age-appropriate and research-based.

Friday, Oct 22: Pink Out Day

West Briar will honor Breast Cancer Awareness on Friday, October 22nd. Students and Staff will have the opportunity to Pink Out by wearing a Pink Top and Jeans.

In order to wear a Pink top and Jeans on this day, students must:

  • Purchase a Pink Wristband for $5 during lunch.
  • Wristbands will be available for purchase Tuesday-Thursday during all 3 lunches.

Wristband must be worn on the 22nd as proof of participation to wear a Pink top. All proceeds will go to Pink Ribbon Inc- a non-profit network/international charity platform- accredited research focused on the origins of breast cancer pinkribbon.org .

Faculty Parking Lot

Please note that the Parking Lot located within our Car Rider Drop-Off/Pick-Up area is our Faculty Parking Lot. Once students are dropped off, we ask that parents continue out of the parking lot leaving adequate spaces for staff members to arrive. This also includes after-school so that staff members can exit the parking lot safely and efficiently.

Socioeconomic Information Form

Parents who have not completed the 2021-2022 Socioeconomic Information Form (pic below) will receive an individual email with instructions to do so. This blue form is very important so that schools can receive Title I* and State Compensatory Education Funding, which directly impacts West Briar MS. These funds can be used to hire personnel, provide tutoring services, order technology, and provide professional development for teachers.

The Socioeconomic Information Form can be completed on paper or through the HISD Connect Parent Portal.

*Find out more about Title I on West Briar's Title I Page
