SES Update

Week of October 3-7

Halloween Activities & Procedures

October 31st is fast approaching. I have already heard students discuss what costume they have chosen for Halloween. They are definitely looking forward to the parade and classroom parties.

It is important to remember though that Halloween festivities are only a part of our school day on October 31st. It is still a day of learning and it is important that we have procedures in place to help support a positive learning environment throughout the day. I have listed below important information regarding Halloween procedures. If you have any questions after reading, please inquire with your classroom teacher or myself.

Thank you for assisting SES in providing a memorable experience for all students by adhering to these guidelines.

2016 Halloween Procedures

Costume Rules:

  • Costumes need to be able to be put on in the classroom.

  • Masks with blood that pumps through are not allowed.

  • Toy or real guns, knives, pitchforks, swords, and any other item deemed a weapon are not allowed.

  • Makeup Guidelines:

    • Minimal makeup will be allowed. Full face paint is not allowed. Any makeup must be applied only at teacher designated time and not require adult assistance. Please do not come to school with makeup already applied. You will be asked to remove it if you do.

Halloween Parade:

Start time: 1:50 pm (Monday, October 31st)
Parking: Unless parents have items to unload for the parties, please do not park in the SES parking lot. Due to construction, there will be minimal parking at the tennis courts. Bluejay Boulevard will be blocked off from Oregon Street to the north entrance of the parking lot by the tennis courts. Additional parking may be found on side streets and the SMS parking lot.

Parade Viewing: You can view the parade from the sidewalk on the east side of the playground which lines Bluejay Boulevard.

Parade Route: Students will exit the building on the east side blacktop by the 2nd grade classrooms. They will proceed to Bluejay Boulevard (which will be blocked off). They will parade down the west side of the street until they reach the north entrance of the tennis court parking lot and then walk back to the building on the east side of the street. Students will complete two loops and will then return to their classrooms for the parties.

Classroom Parties:

Time: 2:15-3:00 pm
Adult Attendance: Only PTO room parents who have been scheduled to be involved with the class party should attend. (Please do not bring younger children, grandchildren, etc.) All classroom party volunteers will be required to sign in on a sheet located on a table inside the SES main doors.

Student Attendance: If your child is not to participate in school parties, please let the classroom instructor know.

Photography: No photos of the classroom party should be placed online or on social media sites, unless the only child in the photo is your own.

Inclement Weather: If the weather does not cooperate on October 31st, the parade will be held inside.

Cross Country Fun Run

Mr. Scott Burger, SHS Activities Director, asked that I share information with students and parents regarding the Cross Country Fun Run. It will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Sabetha Country Club. SES students grade 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in the 3/4 mile race. The girls race will start at 4:00 pm, and will be followed by the boys at 4:15 pm. SMS grades 6-8 will also have this same opportunity. The top five runners in each division will medal. This is also a great chance to cheer on the SHS Cross Country team
