Principal's Message
ELK Family,
I want to share some information about an exciting opportunity that we have created for all of our BHS students called SUCCESS+ Time.
Once a week, typically on Wednesdays, we will run a special bell schedule that will create our SUCCESS+ Time. School start and dismissal time will not change. (8:45 am - 4:15 pm)
What is SUCCESS+?
It is a time where students will be provided additional time in areas that they either need or want. Example: If a student needs/wants more time with the AP US History teacher, then they will sign up to go to this teacher during this time.
We will have several CHOICES for students and these CHOICES will increase by grade level.
Here are just a few examples of the CHOICE sessions that will be available:
AP Classes, Band, Choir, TSI Prep, SAT/ACT Prep, PSAT Prep, Dance, PAP Geom, etc...
Students earn the opportunity to have a CHOICE to sign up for these sessions, and these will rotate every six weeks. Additionally, if a student needs additional help with being successful in a CORE subject, then they will be INVITED into special sessions with that teacher. Students that are INVITED will not have a CHOICE.
Example: A student needs help with learning a standard in Algebra 1 or has not met satisfactory on the STAAR End of Course Exam (EOC). This student will be invited into this session.
Students signed up for the SUCCESS+ sessions last Friday and we will begin SUCCESS+ Wednesday, October 12. As with anything new, there will be some adjustments as we go and we will refine our processes. More information to come about this exciting initiative!!!!
Thanks for your continued support!!!

The last week of October (24th-28th) is Red Ribbon Week at BHS. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the Nation. This year our student council representatives will be taking pledges from students to stay “drug free” during all three lunch periods on Tuesday, October 25th –Thursday, October 27th. Students who sign a pledge will receive a bracelet.
Students will also have the opportunity to dress to match our theme on pledge days.
Tuesday’s Theme - I Elect to be Drug Free. - Dress - red, white and blue
Wednesday’s Theme - Join the fight against drugs. Dress - Camouflage
Thursday’s Theme - Be Someone’s HERO. Stand up to drugs. Dress - Super Hero T-Shirt
The Red Ribbon Campaign reports that conversations with your teens about drug use are making an impact. “Children of parents who talk with their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t.” To learn more about drug prevention you can visit www. redribbon.org.

When asked, “What advice would you offer to students who are looking to pursue an education after high school?” He replied, “Go to college prepared to work like it’s your career!”
If you have any questions about a career in Special Education or would like to know more about Saginaw Valley State University, feel free to find Mr. Gene Allen in room 104 and ask. He would love to share his experiences with you.
