Last Day Arrangements
Friday 10th May 2024 is the last day of taught lessons for the Upper Sixth before study leave begins.
As is custom, normal lessons will take place during Periods 1 and 2, with a Leavers’ Assembly during Period 3. IBDP students are welcome back, having had their final day on Wednesday 24th April. IBDP students must sign in with Mrs Jeljalane in the Sixth Form office on arrival to school. Mrs Porsz has communicated all IBDP last day arrangements to students separately.
Students voted for the dress up theme "Famous characters beginning with the first letter of your name" . Please remember to keep your outfit appropriate for a school environment, we would not wish to send students home early for inappropriate dress.
Please remember that the spirit of the day is a celebration. Students taking part in pranks or those who bring prohibited items to school will be removed from the celebrations and their parents shall be asked to collect them. We do not wish to see anyone in this position.
Students who have purchased a yearbook will be able to collect it on Friday 10th May.
Being respectful in the park and the village
As you leave school on your last day, please be responsible in your use of local community facilities/shops and the park. Please ensure that you do not drop litter or behave in an anti-social way. Members of staff will be visiting the village.
Textbooks, Lockers, Lanyard, Catering Funds
Students must print and return a copy of the leaver's form (see the attachment at the bottom of this newsletter) which details the outstanding books, equipment, lanyards and locker keys which must be returned to the Sixth Form office. Deposit refunds will only be processed on receipt of confirmation that all outstanding receipts have been cleared and the submission of Bank account details to the Finance Department, within 8 weeks of Friday 10th May. There will be a £5 administration fee on any applications after the 8 weeks. No refunds will be processed after 3 months of leaving. Refunds under £5 will not be made.
Regarding student cashless catering accounts, the Leavers' Refund form needs completing with regards to monies left on accounts.
Lost property/Confiscated items
All confiscated items and lost property must be collected from Student Services before you leave on Friday 10th May otherwise items will be donated to charity.

Guide to the Examination process
Students must wear their lanyards to all examinations. All examinations will take place in the SPORTS HALL unless otherwise notified, with IB examinations in S12/13 unless otherwise notified.
Make sure you arrive 15mins before your exam: 8.45am for morning sessions, 12.45pm for IB afternoon sessions and 1.15pm for A level afternoon sessions. If you are late, you may be refused entry to the exam. Exam fee reimbursement will be sought from candidates who fail to sit an exam or meet the necessary coursework requirements without valid reason.
- Before each exam please check the seating plans, which are displayed outside the sports hall. This will tell you where you will be sitting.
- Gallery students: queue by the metal sheds near the MUGA.
- Students sitting exams in S-Block: queue outside the steps to S-Block near the back playground.
- Pay close attention when names are called for entry into the examination venues. Delays in this process will mean subsequent delays for you, particularly at the end of the day.
- You must remain SILENT upon entering the building, do not communicate with anyone.
- Remember, it is your responsibility to arrange your transport home; buses will not be delayed to cover an examination ending late.
- Do not bring anything with you to the exam other than your writing or other authorised equipment. Make sure you are aware of the equipment you need for you exam (an example is a protractor etc for Maths and Physics).
- All equipment should be in a see-through case only, and should include spare pens etc.
- You are not permitted to borrow any equipment during the exam.
- You must write your answers in black ink.
- You are not permitted to be in possession of a mobile phone. If you feel unable to leave your phone anywhere, you can hand it to the invigilators at the start of the exam. You are not allowed to have any food in the examination hall.
- Wrist watches are not permitted.
- Water is allowed but all labels must be removed from the bottle
Please contact the school on 01277 354018 if you are too ill to attend an examination or have been delayed on your way in to school.

Further information regarding IB Examinations:
Students must write their answers with a black ballpoint pen. Fountain and Gel pens are not allowed for IB Examinations, as they do not scan properly due to the thermal scanners the IB uses.
Specific instructions for different papers do differ. Students must ensure they listen carefully to the invigilator instructions for the specific paper each time.
For all IB Examination Papers, other than multiple choice papers, students will have five minutes reading time before the examination time starts. Students must not write or highlight on the paper during this time.

Study Leave - In School
Students are permitted to be on site, to study, in between exams. Students will be asked to leave the school site if you are being a distraction to other students, or not in designated areas allocated to you (E Block study facilities). Students must wear their lanyards at all times when on the school site.
- Entry into school for revision - If students wish to come into school during study leave to revise and you do not have an exam, they must arrive between 8.55am - 9.30am. Students must remain on site until 3:30pm, unless they have an afternoon examination. Students will not be allowed to leave site to get lunch and then come back.
- Signing in - When students arrive in school, they must be wearing your lanyard and you must go straight to the Sixth Form office to sign in.
- Morning Exam: If you have an exam in the morning and want to remain in school to study/revise when this exam has finished, you MUST sign in in the Sixth Form office (as stated above). If you choose to do this, you will need to remain in school until 3.30pm.

If you arrive after this time, you will not be allowed into school until 1.15pm, when you will have time to put anything in your locker and check the seating plan for your exam.
Coping with exam pressure
It is quite normal to worry about exams, but we know for some, this can become overwhelming and affect your health. It is important during the exam period to look after yourself by eating well, resting and getting lots of sleep.
If you need additional support with coping with exam pressure or you know someone who might need help, you can ask to speak to one of the following adults in school: your form tutor, your curriculum manager, the Sixth Form pastoral team or any member of the Safeguarding Team. Alternatively, you can use the report a concern button on our school website.
Support for dealing with exam pressure is also available online at https://www.kooth.com/

Results Days
IB: 5th July, 15:30 - 17:00. Students should attend school (main hall) to collect their results and receive support from the Sixth Form team. Students will also receive their results on the candidates.ibo.org portal on the 6th July at 14:45, should they not be able to attend on the 5th July. However, to access these results, students must collect their login details from Mrs Bowlt before they leave school on 24th April. We will not be able to assist students with this on 5th July.
A Level: 15th August, 8:30 - 12:00. Students should attend school (main hall) to collect their results and receive support from the Sixth Form team. UCAS support will also be available.
Requests for results - IB
All IB results will automatically be sent to UCAS. If you need us to send them to any other institutions (e.g. abroad or a fashion college) you need to email Mrs Bowlt by 5th May 2023 (bowltc@aesessex.co.uk), so that she can liaise with you. Failure to do so may delay confirmation of your offer and any requests for results after they have been released will always incur a fee from the IB.
Examination Certificates
These will be available mid-November 2024, further information will follow.
And finally - Good Luck!
We would like to wish you all the best of luck in the forthcoming examinations. We are always interested to know how you are getting on and we are always here should you need us. Please sign up to be part of our Alumni network https://www.aesessex.co.uk/alumni/alumni-form/ to keep in touch.
