Coffee Chat Update
The word cloud above includes the words that LCs shared in response the question, "What one word describes your school year thus far?" The bigger the word, the more often it was said. These words led to some great conversations during our sessions.
Our coffee chats are a way for parents to share their input and feedback on what is going well and what we need to improve at OVS. We are a new program that relies on feedback in order to improve our learners' experience. Good, bad, or otherwise, we want to hear it!
We have already taken action on some of the feedback from the coffee chats:
- We have started to gather family information for a school-wide directory so families can connect with one another more easily. (more information below).
- We are working to identify mentors for new families who will join us 2nd semester (you can indicate this on the directory form, or email Mrs. Nommensen if you are interested in mentoring a new family)
- We have shortened our enrollment period during the school year. Effective 2nd semester. Our late-start learners struggled and is not an ideal learning environment when they start late.
If you were unable to attend a session or weren't able to share your input on the online form, you are welcome to email me or call me. wendy.loewenstein@ops.org or call my office 531-299-9618 (I'm not in it very often, so you will probably have to leave a message for me to call back!) Our next chat will be in March/April.
Thank you for being in our school community and working hard with your learners to ensure their success!
~Wendy
Directory Information
Brooke has begun the process of making our OVS directory. Next week we will begin printing copies for those that requested a printed copy. If you would like to be included, please make sure to fill out the form this weekend. So far, we have only had responses from 59 families. This is a great way to find ways to network with other families in the program.

MTSS-B: What is it?
Omaha Virtual School has implemented a positive behavior system with the support of Omaha Public Schools. This multi-tiered system of support for behavior (MTSS-B) clearly states and teaches behavioral expectations while learners are engaged in learning at the center and online.
Our school-wide behavior expectations are:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be Engaged
Be Accountable
When learners are exhibiting these behaviors, they receive positive feedback and if they are in the K-8 classrooms, they receive a ticket and in the 9th-11th grade classroom, a sticker on a chart. At the end of each quarter, the K-8 tickets are put all together for prize drawings. If the high school learners fill their sticker chart they receive a class reward.
Below are the specific classroom expectations that could be applied with your learners at home.
