Simon Elementary School Newsletter
Back to School 2019 Edition - August & September
From the Principal
-Learning is important.
-Always give your best effort.
-Don't give up just because something is difficult.
-Don't be afraid to ask for help.
-If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
-You can do this!
-I believe in you.
At Simon, there are three main categories that compose our school-wide behavior expectations: Respectful, Responsible, and Ready. Examples of how children can show these qualities are shared in the classroom as well as during morning announcements. We ask for your help in reinforcing these to develop traits for success for students.
As we make our way through the year, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you have or assistance you may need regarding your child's education.

Nurse's Office Update
Each year, kindergarten students and any students new to the district shall provide evidence of completion of a school physical, including updated immunization records. Kindergarten and any new students also need to provide proof of an eye examination. The final deadline for this documentation is October 15th as set by school code, the Illinois law governing schools. If this is not done by October 15th, students shall not attend school until it is resolved.
The nurse's office has sent letters to anyone missing this information. If you received a letter, please take action promptly to ensure that that there are no interruptions in your child's attendance.
At any time, if there are health issues that arise with your child, changes in medication, or questions that you have, do not hesitate to call the nurse's office.

Simon Spotlight: Winnebago PTO
The Winnebago PTO does a great deal to support our students, teachers, and elementary schools. The PTO is an organization open to parents of all Preschool through 5th grade students. The organization is looking for parents who are willing to lend a helping hand. The events and activities coordinated through PTO rely on the work of individuals willing to volunteer. There are differing levels of involvement, ranging from helping with one particular event to serving as a PTO board member.
We invite and encourage interested parents to attend PTO meetings, which are held in the McNair Library at 4:00. Meetings will not take place every month but will follow this schedule:
Tuesday, October 8
Tuesday, December 10
Tuesday, February 11
Tuesday, April 1
The annual PTO spirit wear sale is under way and ends Friday, September 6th. Completed order forms should be turned in to the office by this date.
