Mrs. Turner's Tidbits
Welcome back to another great year at Circle Towanda Elementary Schools! We are all very excited to get the year in full swing and educate your children! I LOVE the smiling faces of the children and adults. What a terrific way to start a day!
It seems like Open House was a long time ago, but it really wasn’t. I appreciated everyone who came and dropped off supplies. We know many of you could not attend due to schedule conflicts and the rain but we did have a pretty good turn-out! It is always so nice to see the happy and excited, often wet, faces. It’s also nice to get the chance to meet the new families, and we do have a lot of new students in our building. We love all the new additions.
Speaking of new additions…we even had a few new additions to our teaching staff. Ms. Kali Stearns is joining us as our new fifth grade math/science teacher. She is a recent graduate from KU. She is excited and already winning the children over with her positive attitude and friendly smile! Mrs. Megan Sarkett is a somewhat new face to our building. She is our new Interrelated Teacher. She has great experience and is already becoming a part of all the classrooms at the Primary. She did her student teaching last year at CTI. Mrs. Courtney Wellner is a familiar face but with a new job at the Primary School. She is our new Pre K teacher. We have 29 vibrant students who have come to our school for our first year! Thankfully, Mrs. Wellner was ready and even hired some help. Mrs. Kayla Rodriguez and Ms. Theresa Hoit have joined our staff as the assistants in the 4 yr old program. Several students were nervous about the “new” teachers. I think that after the first few minutes in their classes they had already decided that they were going to like our new additions! They have been a terrific addition for sure!
Kindergarten and Pre K parents should have received and email about ASQ2 and ASQ3. This stands for Ages and Stages Questionnaire. This is a new screening the state of Kansas is now requiring for all pre k and kindergarten aged students. If you have not been able to complete it online and would rather have a paper form, please contact Mrs. Jennifer at the Primary. She will send one home with your child. We are requesting that these forms be returned by the end of next week. The teachers will then meet with all the families who returned their questionnaire on Sept. 24th. Thanks for your cooperation with this new requirement.
Many of you received a school messenger...sorry the text was incomplete...about our newly required crisis drills. We are now required to do 9 crisis drills a year. We will do several different types of drills throughout the school year. You will receive a text message and an email each time we conduct a drill. We want you all to be informed and aware. Give me a call should you have any questions. PLEASE note that we will not allow any person to enter our building during a drill. They will typically last less than 10 minutes. You will see a sign on our door buzzer to alert you that a drill is in progress. You are welcome to enter the building once the drill is complete. We will remove the sign. The state does not allow us to notify anyone of the drill more than 5 minutes prior to conducting the drill.
Please don’t forget to attend our PTO/Site Council meetings. We are meeting the first Monday of each month at 4:15 at the Primary School (please see the calendar to confirm the date. We will not meet on Monday’s when school is not in session). We have already met one time and have begun discussion about new school T-Shirts, fundraiser, building needs and many more items. Please come and be a part of planning for our school. We make many decisions for our school during these meetings. This is the best place to help us continue the great education your child will receive. We hope to see many of you at our next meeting on September 10th. We will be planning for the Book Fair Family Night so be sure to come and be part of the fun! See you there!!!
Lunchroom news
Don’t forget to keep a close eye on your child’s lunch balance on PowerSchool. Start by going to our website www.circleusd375.com. There are two ways to view your child’s balance. You can see the actual transactions by clicking on the balance tab on the PowerSchool page. Log in to your child’s account and you can see the daily transactions. If you want to just check your child’s balance and/or make a payment, please go to the online payment tab (located at the bottom of the circle webpage) and set up a payment. If you have any questions feel free to contact the school offices. We have several people ready and willing to help you out.
Please keep in mind that we are not allowed to bring carbonated beverages into the lunchroom. This is for adults as well. Please remember this if you are bringing in a lunch. Students are not to bring carbonated beverages in their lunches either. Thanks for your help and cooperation with this!

HELP PTO
What does PTO do? What would I have to do to be part of this organization? Do I have time for this too? These are all questions we hear from new parents coming to our school. We would like to answer them for you! PTO is an organization that supports your child's teacher and their classroom. PTO provides assistance with room parties, open house, back-to-school night, fundraisers, Family Fun Night, Book Fair and so much more! All you need to do is come to the meetings or...if you don't have time for that...assist by supplying needed items from notes that come home or helping with the classroom parties and Family Fun Night. We really do have a great time meeting and networking with other parents in your child's school. We hope you can find some time to check us out! CTP & CTI Library
Hi! I am Mrs. Debbie Heitzenrater and I am the librarian for both the Intermediate and the Primary libraries. Assisting me in the libraries are Mrs. Milam at the Primary and Mrs. Cogan at the Intermediate. I am looking forward to helping your children find great books and working with them in regularly scheduled library classes and/or with classroom projects.
Please encourage your children to be responsible library patrons. I instruct them on proper care of library books. I need you to reinforce this with them. If a book becomes lost or damaged, you will be asked to pay for the book in question. If a library checkout folder is damaged beyond use or lost, the replacement cost for the folder is $1.00. Most books may be kept up to two weeks before the book is considered overdue. Overdue notices are given to your child at school to let them know to either check-out the book again or to return it.
EC, Pre-K and Kindergarten will check out a book for the first time after Labor Day. First grade students checked out a book this week. All the other grades have checked out a book already this year. EC-2nd grade students check out only ONE book at a time. Students in grades 3-6, may check-out two books at a time. The students are allowed to get new books as soon as they return checked out items. Students lose the right to check out books if they have any outstanding “fine” for a damaged or lost book.
I meet weekly with grades EC-4th. Lessons reinforce classroom concepts as well as library skills. With 5th and 6th grade, I assist them with special lessons and projects. Makerspace will begin the week of October 1st. Each makerspace is held in the libraries and during the hours of school.
If you ever have any question, please feel free to contact me at school. I am looking forward to working with your children.
