In Case You Missed It:
Our Curriculum Night was helpful to parents that attended on Tuesday evening. We did not have as many families come as we have had in the past and attribute this to improvements in the registration card and more Stallions went to the high school Curriculum Night. This was the first year we had an information table concerning advanced classes in middle school. The families that attended seemed appreciative to have the opportunity to learn more about the rubric. Thank you to Anna Whalen, Nejla deLambert, and Miranda Colwell for organizing and Bianca DeMarcello, Tonnette Wicker, Brian and Karen Caldwell for being at the event to help our families.
Our Sixth Grade Spring Open House was a success. We had many families stop by to see our school, and learn more about opportunities for our children. Thank you to Anna Whalen and Jamie Cox for organizing the event. Our 6th grade teachers (Andrew Allen, Karen Briggs, Sheryl Bristow, Natalie Davis, Kevin Degon, Lindsay Gaines, Anriette Pienaar, Christina Reed, Haley Smith, and Wendi Wicker )split up and helped with AViD interviews or had their room open and fielded questions from parents and future Stallions. Vincent Pienaar and Nejla deLambert also assisted with interviews while Tommy Harrington and Jake Stevens explained requirements for 6th graders to play sports. Our elective teachers made beautiful boards to display during the event which showed all the different elective course offerings at SLMS. We had AVID students which showed families around, answered questions, and assisted families with signing up for AVID and 6th grade Leadership Academies.
I'm so grateful to be able to work with you all. Your commitment to our children, school, families, and each other is evident everyday. You volunteer to tutor children after school, sell tickets on a Friday afternoon so our children can play a rained out game, interview future AVID students, answer future parent questions, call, email, and meet with parents to keep them abreast of slips and improvements, and hug, laugh, and support each other
through each day. Thank you!
*This months fire drill will be announced again like last months. Right now it is scheduled for sometime on Tuesday after testing. Evan will send out specific information later.
Congratulations to Joy Wilson and our local NCAEOP chapter for winning 2nd place for their newsletter.
