THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
February 25, 2022
As a school, we can maximize our learning potential by increasing our abilities to share and exchange ideas. In order to facilitate the sharing, we establish group norms of expected behavior, and then we achieve interdependence. The project below, initiated by our LRC Department, is our visual reminder of the beauty that can be created when we work harmoniously together.
Parents, you are a big part of our learning community. Your support reinforcing the habits and dispositions of learners is a big help! We are all modeling how we use cooperative agreements to support each other so that we create a harmonious and effective community.
Kind Regards,
Principal Brennan

When we stick together, we can create a masterpiece: WASCO ELEMENTARY!!
March Book Madness 2022:
Feb. 28-March 4 is Read Across America week! To celebrate, the elementary LRC directors are kicking off a district-wide book competition called March Book Madness 2022. Each week, throughout the month of March, students will view books that have been recorded by the elementary LRC Directors and Youth Services Librarians at the St. Charles Public Library. Students will use Google Forms to vote for their favorite of two books, eliminating books in a bracket-style competition. All students will have the chance to participate in this fun reading promotion. The winner will be announced March 25th!
Full district bracket here. Read alouds are linked on each title. Titles will move as voting takes place each week.
Schools within each division are:
1= Corron, Lincoln, Norton Creek
2= Wild Rose, Ferson Creek
3= Wasco, Anderson, Bell Graham
4= Munhall, Davis, Richmond
5Essentials Survey
The parent response rate is 22% for the 2022 Illinois Parent Survey. Your participation is important to the school community. Please use the link in the below letter to complete the survey. Something kind would be filling out the survey.
Dear District 303 Parents and Guardians,
District 303 participates in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey that collects feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will give you the opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness. The responses will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement efforts. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey is currently open and will remain so through March 11, 2022. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey. As part of this communication, we have included a link to graphics of the login page with additional information about how to access the survey. Most notably, make sure you enter Kane County in the box for county even if your home or your child’s school is in DuPage County. This will allow you to correctly select your child’s school.
All District 303 teachers, as well as students in 4th through 12th grades, are being asked to complete this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. Teachers will work with students to assist them with logging in and taking the student survey.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
We value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your input.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.

Art News

Hello Wasco Families!
During art class, our students upload a photo of their work onto Artsonia, the world’s largest online student art museum. It's a free, safe, educational program designed to connect parents and families with their child's creative activities at school. Many of you are familiar with Artsonia because we have used it in the past.
Founded over 15 years ago, Artsonia has been recognized with the national distinguished service award for outstanding contribution to the arts by the National Art Education Association, as well as the distinguished service award by the state art associations in New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan and Colorado.
Families in K-1 or those new to Wasco School, if you would like to grant permission for your child to join our exciting school art gallery or click on the link and enter your child's name and grade, along with an email.
https://www.artsonia.com/connect/XP526348
We participate only for the digital gallery and it is not necessary to purchase anything that Artsonia offers. Thank you for your support! If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at Joellen.Anderson@d303.org.
Sincerely,
Jody Anderson, Art Teacher

5th Grade Human Growth and Development Presentation
Fifth-grade classes will be attending the Human Growth and development presentation on Friday, March, 11. The presentation consists of a narrated PowerPoint, including a short video, and time to submit questions. The school nurses will review the questions and return answers to students within the week. Boys and girls programs are similar in content but will be presented and facilitated separately within your student's classroom. A letter will be sent to 5th-grade parents with more details via their classroom e-news. As a parent, you have the right to request that your child not participate in this presentation. If after reviewing the information you would prefer your child not participate, please submit a written letter to the principal by March 4, 2022. If you have any questions about the presentation you may contact your building Certified School Nurse, Wendy Landers at 331-228-6068.
