The First Amendment
What the First Amendment means to me.
What the First Amendment means to me.
The First Amendment effects every U.S citizen in many ways. The world would be completely different without these laws. Giving America the right to petition, assembly, the right of religion, freedom of speech, and right to have press makes the world the way it is today. These laws are important for many reason it would be awful not to be able to express your religion, not to be able to assemble with anyone, or to be able to hear what is going on around the world.
First, without right of religion you would not be able to express what you believe in. Being able to be who I am and express that is very important to me. Everyone grew up in different surroundings and have it put in their brain what they believe, it would be wrong to take that away from anyone. I think about it like what if someone made me go to a Catholic school, I would not like to be forced to believe something. Without freedom of religion my schooling system would not be the same, the government could pick whatever religion they wanted and force students to study it. Everyone one is different, without freedom of religion nothing would work the same.
Second, without the right to assemble Americans would not be able to stand up in that they believe in. We wouldn’t be able to boycott anymore to let the government know that what they are doing is not what’s best for America. The way it affects me the most is the more minor things like being able to gather up and watch a movie with a bunch of my friends, or be able to do a school pep-rally. Being able to get together with people and share the same interests is important. Without the right to assemble everyone would have to be separate rather than in a group. Without assembly everything would be different, America would look different.
Third, freedom of press is important in order to know what is happening in America, and around the world. Without press America would be a devastating place. We would not have be able to help people in Haiti with the destruction of a hurricane because we would not have known about it. We would probably all be sick from things like Ebola or the black plague because we didn’t know other counties had these disease. We also would not have known what is happening to our soldiers in war. Press is very crucial to America’s population.
Every law the First Amendment has brought us is fundamental to our society. America would be nothing like it is now without these laws. The First Amendment brings America freedom of speech and religion, it brings us right to petition and assemble, and right to have press. Without these things citizens could be thrown all over the place we would be the government’s robots.
