NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 2 | 28 APRIL 2021
Kindy Blue Community of Learners
This term we have been immersed in many different types of activities through watching,
listening, playing, exploring and experimenting. We are building a sense of belonging to different groups in our community - family, school, friendship, buddy and faith groups. We have also been engaged in Maths and English activities. In Maths we are learning about number and in English we are learning about concepts of print – what is a letter, word and sentence.
ANZAC DAY PRAYER
Lord God,
Help us to remember the sacrifices of the ANZACs, Australians and New Zealanders, and the generations of men, women and children who have died in the cause of liberty and peace.
Help us to remember those who still bear the physical and mental scars and disabilities of their service.
Help us to remember the widows, partners, parents and orphans and all those who waited in vain for the return of a loved one.
Help us to remember the mateship, agony, courage and compassion of war service, but save us from ever glorifying the horror and tragedy of war.
Lord God, help us to remember.
Lest we forget.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
On Wednesday last week our Year 6 students lead a reflective and moving Anzac Day liturgy. Fr Sam, Mr Colins and Meredith Hammat, MLA for Mirrabooka were our special guests. We acknowledge and thank Mrs Brown for co-ordinating this very respectful service.
Covid-19
The children have adapted well to seeing staff wearing masks again. We are mindful of children’s mental wellbeing and will continue to monitor all our students. We will keep you up to date with any new information we receive regarding Covid restrictions that apply to schools.
Activities at OLOM
In last week’s newsletter I highlighted all the extra-curricular activities that students can engage in at our school. We have many opportunities for students to be involved in special activities during the school day, usually at lunch time. Mrs Billy-Rooney and Mrs Thomas run clubs three times a week, where students can tap into their creativity and engage in craft activities. The library is now open for students to read books and play board and card games too and we thank staff for taking on an extra duty to provide supervision in the library at lunch times. Selected students are working with Ms Mikulich in a Jump Jam dance program and Mrs Brown runs Numero Maths sessions for selected students. We have a dedicated staff who go above and beyond to ensure that our students have many opportunities to learn and grow in all aspects of their development.
P&F
Our Parents and Friends Committee is meeting at 6pm tomorrow evening in our Tech Hub. All parents and carers are welcome to attend this meeting. The meeting runs for an hour and we discuss events that the P&F run in the school to bring our community together, to support the work we do as educators and to fund raise.
Colour Run
Thank you to our wonderful P&F for running a successful Colour Run for our students on the last day of Term 1. The smiles on our students’ faces was proof of how much they enjoyed this event. Thank you also to Ms Millen for all the help she provided our P&F in organising the Colour Run. We are also so grateful to the many parent/carer helpers on the day. Events like these can only be held with support from our families. We appreciate the time you give to our school community. $6886,56 was raised and in due course we will let you know how the money was spent to resource the school.
God is Present
With the recent destruction of regional towns up north due to cyclone Seroja, the bushfires at the start of Term 1, the Covid crisis unfolding in India, the economic loss for families and businesses during our lockdown, as well as several bereavements in our school community, we can sometimes ask how God can work with this mess and mend it all?
As we seek comfort during trying times, we can draw on these words of hope from Psalm 147 - “The Lord rebuilds”. We will all experience times that leave us broken-hearted but we can take comfort that "God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1 Peter 5:10
God bless you all.
