Husky Happenings
February 22
Weekly Update
Happy Friday
This short week has been a whirlwind. The spring weather has helped make it a little more bearable.
Ted is holding the R-II archery shoot Monday at 5:30 pm.
Family Reading Night will be Tuesday, Feb. 27th.
There will be an electricity assembly for the older kids on March 5th at 9: 00 am. This is usually held in the gym.
There was a lot of information covered at our board meeting. I have announced that I will retire after the 24-25 school year. We will have some movement and new faces for next year. Ms. Mense will be starting her next chapter in Rolla. We wish her well! Mrs. Strubberg will be moving into the Title I position. She is the only internal candidate with the reading specialist certification. Ms. Brooklynn Covington will be teaching first grade, Ms. Lauren Hoerstkamp will be teaching second grade, and Mrs. Rachel Meyer (Horstmann) will be the Special Education Director. Change is hard but it is also good!
We will be holding a retirement reception for our retirees on May 5th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This will be held in the gym and cafeteria.
The dental screenings will be March 25 at 10:00 am.
The pep assembly will be held this Friday since we had a snow day. TREND has put a lot of time and effort in to planning, so we want them to be able to have their assembly!
The sink sprayer on the dishwasher has been replaced. It will be retested once I receive my kit.
Students can shop in the store Feb. 26-March 1st. We will draw for Ice Cream Shop on the 29th.
We updated a few policies at the board meeting. The full updated copies will be online soon.
GBEBA- Drug Free Workplace: the updated policy will be online to review
The policy states that our workplace must be drug and alcohol free including marijuana. We have the right to take appropriate disciplinary action if we feel like an employee is under the affects of drugs or alcohol. Employees that drive district transportation are subject to random drug testing. Others employees could be sent for testing if there is reasonable suspicion that they have violated this policy.
GBEBB2- Employee Alcohol and Drug Testing
The main change of this policy is to remind employees that even though marijuana is legalized in MO, it is NOT legal for you to use, possess, distribute etc. at school or on school grounds. Marijuana is not legalized federally and our school accepts federal funds.
JFCI 1 We will not perform drug tests on students.
JFCH- Students are not allowed to possess, distribute, or use marijuana of any kind on district property or at a district activity.
JFG- Searches of Students
Updated to state that students are not allowed to possess, distribute, or use marijuana of any kind at school or on district property.
JG RI- You will want to look at this policy once it is up. I will update the handbook to reflect the new language. It modifies student discipline and includes language regarding AI and ChatGPT. This would fall under academic dishonesty.
JHCD- Administration of Medications to Students
We can not administer marijuana to students even if it is for medical use. It can not be on the grounds at all. We will not administer CBD, essential oils or other things to kids that does not have FDA approval. There is an accompanying procedure that tells us how to screen and prevent head lice. This can be found under JHC-AP 2 (Board adopts policy and the superintendent can update procedures.)
Other policies were also modified to add the restriction of marijuana on school grounds.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day was Feb. 22nd. I treated Bob and Amanda to some sweets and gift certificates to Hill Top. Let them know how much they are appreciated. Amanda also celebrates her birthday tomorrow! Happy Birthday!
Jean and I will be visiting All Encompassing on Monday morning. We will be gone for a couple of hours. We need to leave about 7:45 am. Our tour is at 8:30 am. This is a facility in Marthasville that specializes in autism and other areas for students.
I am working on getting end of the year activities scheduled. Please plan field trips if you have not done so already. I have Mrs. Scheer checking on the K-5 Stem Day May 14th. If we can swing it, and if they are not full we will plan to go.
