Fraser Library @ BK
September 2017
Welcome Back!
We in the library are excited to begin a new year. This issue of the Library Newsletter will introduce the new resources that are available to BK students. We have new databases, new books, updated web pages, & more.
LexisNexis Scholastic
The respected database used by government and law professionals includes the New York Times and the Idaho Business Review. The interface is built for high school students and offers the ability to search using one of 6 different specific search engines: News, Legal Cases, Companies, People, Congressional Bills, and State Bills. LexisNexis will only be available on campus.
JSTOR
JSTOR provides access to more than 11 million academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines. Included are 2,000 journals, 50,000 eBooks, and 2 million primary source materials in high resolution that enable detailed inspection. Available on campus and at home by password.
ARTSTOR Digital Library
ARTSTOR contains over 2 million images from around the world. Images can by found by collection or geographic area, in addition to simple and advanced search engines. Students will need to create an account using their BK gmail credentials to download or print images. When images are needed for assignments, use ARTSTOR to find the perfect art or image.
BK Passwords
Trying to remember all the passwords needed to access BK resources for classes and the library can be cumbersome. A complete list has been added to the Library Class on Blackboard. All BK students are enrolled in this class. So if students can get into Blackboard, they can find what they need to access all other resources. They are also available at the BK Help Desk.
New Tech Tools Webpage
Tech Tools contains links to digital pieces and parts that can help create fantastic projects and assignments. A new design improves the access to these commonly used tools. So when students need images, videos, sound, or graphics, and the apps to create their presentation, this page is the place to go.
New Primary Sources Webpage
Primary sources are documents that were created at the time an event occurred. These can be images, letters, maps, news articles, art, artifacts, and more. They can provide the most honest look at an event and provide one of the best resources for research. A new Primary Sources webpage has been created to provide access to many of the free repositories of Primary Sources on the web. Primary Sources can also available in the BK databases, and in books found in the library.
BK Help Desk
A link to the new BK Help Desk is located at the bottom of the main BK.org website. Logging in to the Help Desk using their BK credentials will allow students to ask questions and get answers to the tech problems they may be having. Also they will find how-tos, passwords, and more.
Laptop Chargers
The library has a collection of laptop chargers that can be used at school when students need them to charge their devices. If you happen to have an old charger that still works, but the computer doesn't, then consider donating it to the library. Just drop the in the office or the library. Thank you!!
