What's Hatching?
January 2023
Greetings Albion Families,
Happy New Year! I hope each of you had a restful and meaningful time with your family over the winter break. I know that the students and teachers enjoyed being back at school, catching up on all they did during the holidays, and getting back to what they do best....learning. As educators, at Ronald L. Sodoma Elementary, we are thankful for all the great opportunities we have in order to impact the young lives of our students. Our students are the reason we’re here.
As they returned to school on Tuesday January 3, 2023, the atmosphere was cheerful and filled with anticipation. So as the second half of the school year begins, the teachers and administrators continue to have one vision for our students and we hope it closely matches yours. We want ALL of our young Eagle scholars to become all they can be. We want them to be successful through hard work, consistent attendance, perseverance, utilizing help from our faculty, working diligently, and most importantly having fun! We want this because these traits will build good habits that will carry them successfully throughout their Eagle path. We expect a great deal from our scholars because they are very capable of producing great results!
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to the amazing things that will be happening during the second half of this school year!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Conway

Friday, December 2: ES PTA Holiday Craft Night was a success. Thank you to the elementary school PTA for putting on this great family event.
Monday, December 5: Two students received awards at the December BOE meeting. Adelyn Gephart was nominated for the Character award and Savannah Sherman was nominated for the Leadership award.
- Thursday, December 8: Our 3-5 grade chorus and 5th grade band put on a holiday concert for their peers.
Thursday, December 15: The High School Student Council hosted the kindergarten classes for the Polar Express. The youngsters had train tickets punched, were given decorated bags and then sat back and enjoyed the movie in their festive pajamas. Thank you to the High School students for hosting such a fun event.
Thursday, December 22: Our third grade classrooms had fun making Gingerbread houses! Students were able to put their creativity to work by designing and planning patterns to build their own unique gingerbread house.
- Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Hitchcock’s Kindergarten classes put together infant bags with aid from the Elementary School music teacher, Mrs. DeMena, and the Elementary School’s social worker, Mrs. Nicholson. Items that were packed included safety locks, books for reading to babies, rattles, and baby blankets made by Mrs. Zayac’s High School Child Development class. Along with these items was stuffed a brochure providing information about why nurturing, safety and reading are important.
- Bags for children aged 6-10 were created by fourth grade students from Mrs. Kast, Mrs. Napierala, and Mrs. Salerno’s classes. Music teacher Mrs. DeMena and the school’s counselor, Mrs. Badura, helped out. Included were fidget toys, books about emotions, math games practice cards, rain sticks, and fleece blankets.

January's Theme: Goals
January’s Counseling Corner
Mrs. Badura & Mrs. George
January is the ideal time to set some new goals for yourself and your child. Showing your child how to work towards positive changes models an essential life skill. Using the SMART guidelines from https://www.verywellfamily.com/, you can set age appropriate goals for your child and realistic goals for yourself to be sure you follow through on your promises.
Specific: List exactly what you want to achieve (instead of "running faster" think "run a 5k in under 30 minutes").
Measurable: How will you keep track of your goal and determine whether you've been successful?
Achievable: Your goals don't have to be easy, but they need to be possible. Do you have the means and ability to make your dream a reality?
Relevant: Does this goal serve your greater focus and purpose in life?
Time-bound: Give yourself a deadline. Aim to reach milestones by certain dates.
Below is a graphic of age- appropriate goals for your family members using the SMART guidelines. Be sure to add some FAMILY GOALS as well such as: We won't use cell phones at the table; We will play a board-game together every Sunday night to bond; or We will limit fast food to twice per month or less.
