Alliteration

Definition:
the use of words that begin with the same sound near one another
Example:
"purple penguins pick petunias"


Imagery

Definition:
language that causes people to imagine pictures in their mind
Example:
"the rock has a smooth surface,
it covers the sidewalk like
a tiled floor in a room."


metephor

Definition:
two unlike nouns are compared without using "like" or "as"
Example:
"my brain is a computer"


repetition

Definition:
the act of saying or doing something again : the act of repeating something
Example:
"do do do"


rhyme

Definition:
one of two or more words or phrases that end in the same sounds
Example:
"night-light-tight etc."


rhythm

Definition:
a regular, repeated pattern of events, changes, activities, etc.
Example:
"(.- .--- ..-.)-( .- .--- ..-.)"


Simile

Definition:
two unlike nouns are compared using "like" or "as"
Example:
"my brain is as smart as a computer"
