Weekly Wellness
May’s habit of the month is “Celebrate and Appreciate” and the disposition is “Trust.”
Endings are times for celebration and appreciation, which lay the foundation for resilience in days ahead. Appreciation is like secret sauce. You only need a few drops of it every day- in combination with other key habits and dispositions-to create resilience. That’s because feeling and expressing appreciation strengthens social connections, deepens our emotional intelligence and self-confidence, and heightens our ability to focus on the positive. When people practice gratitude, not only do their social bonds strengthen, they feel more supported, which fuels their confidence in their ability to tackle big challenges (Layous et al., 2017). Gratitude also shifts the focus off of ourselves and helps us recognize that our successes are due, in part, to the actions of others. This humility makes us want to help others, improve ourselves, and reciprocate support to those who have helped us.
Gratitude helps us strive for our goals and inspires us to be better. Gratitude is an activating, energizing force that helps us strive for our goals and inspires us to be better.
