The old saying goes, the only thing constant is change. I believe this saying is attributed to Heraclitus around 500 BC. Heraclitus also reportedly stated on the topic of change, life is flux. I have found great comfort in these cliches over the years when faced with change, whether wanted or unwanted. So, Spring has sprung and change is all around us, what remains the same in Clinton Schools?
The teachers remain devoted to their students and seek the best for them.
The teachers continue to work on a viable written curriculum, knowing it is the key to continuous improvement.
The Professional Development Committee continues to provide guidance on the implementation of “best practices” for all students.
Bright Futures members remain energetically committed to bettering the lives of students and families of Clinton.
Public Schools, such as the fine schools of Clinton, remain the cornerstone of this great democracy.
My faith and trust in people and my commitment to leaving a place better than I found it.
What can you think of that remains the same in your world? Can you embrace change knowing the values and goals you hold will remain?

"IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A CARDINAL" ARTICLES
Preparing for the 18/19 School Year
Submitted by: Jarrod Steffens, CHS Principal
On March 15th, current Freshman, Sophomore and Junior CHS students spent time with their guardians and Cardinal Time advisor finalizing their schedule for next year and future plans. Students and their parents were invited to schedule a 20-minute conference to discuss scheduling, Pre-ACT information and other ways that CHS can help students achieve their post-secondary goals. We are proud to announce that over 75% of students took advantage of this opportunity and have already had their course requests entered for next year.
As a result of this enrollment process, CHS administration and counselors will begin building a master schedule of courses, sections and hours offered for students for the 2018-2019 school year. Balancing student requests with teacher availability and course conflicts, all come into play when helping arrive at a student's course schedule. The goal is for students to have a preliminary schedule before they leave to go home for summer break.
CHS continues to ask students to take a challenging and relevant course of study which will help prepare them for their next steps after high school. School staff continue to try and offer more opportunities for students to meet this expectation. Throughout their high school career students are encouraged to take Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit and other weighted courses. CHS will be adding AP Psychology and AP Biology to those opportunities for next year. CHS also encourages students to look at the Career and Technical courses offered through Clinton Technical School, which will also provide them opportunities for internships and job shadowing. CHS also offers a wide variety of elective courses that give students the opportunity to explore possible areas of interest.
During this time of preparing for next year, we are also working on preparing for our newest CHS Cardinals who will be joining us from 6 schools that feed to us (Clinton Middle School, Holy Rosary, Clinton Christian Academy, Leesville, Davis and Shawnee Mound). Clinton High School counselors have visited each of these schools and helped prepare students for their class selection and 4-year plan as well.
We look forward to partnering with students and parents to prepare for a great 18-19 school year. The enrollment process drives our set-up of classes for a successful school year, and we appreciate everyone’s input in making it happen. Please feel free to email or call with any questions about how we can better serve the students of CHS.

Month of the Young Child
Submitted by: Clinton Early Childhood Center
It is that exciting time of year again when we have the opportunity to celebrate the youngest members of our Cardinal family.
In Clinton, April is the Month of the Young Child. Nationally, the celebration only lasts a week and this year will be celebrated April 16-20. However, in our community the passion for raising awareness of issues facing young children and their families has grown into a month long celebration!
The mission of Month of the Young Child is to celebrate the children of our community, raise awareness of issues affecting children and their families, and to honor those that serve and care for children in our community. This year, we will be posting handprints EVERYWHERE, signing city and county proclamations, participating in Traffic Jam, sending notes of encouragement to military children, working together on an Autism awareness mural, pulling those pop-tabs for RMH Charities, hosting the Father Daughter Ball, and enjoying daily activities during the Week of the Young Child. If it sounds busy…it is!
So, why are all these things so important and how can you join in?
The Power of One… What power does one person or one child have to change the world? Very little it might seem at first. Yet we have to look no further than Lincoln, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, & Beethoven to be faced with individuals who had the power to move the world.
You too have the power to move the world, as do all of our children. Take a moment to consider what you can do that will make a difference in the life of a child. Will you give an extra hug, donate, vote, speak out, take a stand, become a foster parent/grandparent, spend a little more time with a child?
TAKE this moment to commit yourself, your family, your church, your organization to making a difference in the life of a child. Demonstrate this commitment by making a paper plate handprint with a child and as you do you might say: “You are a marvel. Each second you live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again … You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, your laugh and smile, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel.” (Pablo Casals)
