Oh! The Places You'll Go!

2015-2016 LVES Weekly Staff Newsletter

Week of April 11 - April 15, 2016

Family Fun Night is Tuesday!

Don't forget to stop by PDQ on Tuesday night to eat dinner and see 2nd grade for our monthly Family Fun Night!

Jog-A-Thon is Friday

Please bring your classes to PE for specials on Friday for the Jog-A-Thon. A donation envelope went home today in Friday folders for students to collect donations next week. Students and classes that collect the most donations will receive a prize, and all participants will receive a button. Please remind students to wear tennis shoes on Friday, as well as apply sunscreen and bring an extra water bottle.

Spring Staff Party is Friday

Eric sent out an Evite earlier this week, so please be sure to RSVP so he knows how many burgers to cook. Hope to see you all at Casa de Holt on Friday for some well-deserved social time!

Teacher of the Year Nominations

Of course I am a little biased, because I think we have an entire building full of teachers of the year! However, we can only choose one from our campus. Here is an email from Dr. Lofton outlining the process for nominating teachers for "Teacher of the Year":

If you wish to nominate a candidate for the 2016 Teacher of the Year, please email or send your completed ballot by Friday, April 22nd.

The Teacher of the Year candidate should:

  • be a teaching professional who does not plan on retiring during the next academic year;
  • be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled teacher who is planning to continue in an active teaching status;
  • inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn;
  • have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues;
  • play an active and useful role in the community, as well as in the school;
  • be poised, articulate, and possess the energy to withstand a taxing schedule.

After the nomination process is complete, candidates will be asked to submit a one-page summary of their professional teaching experience by Friday, April 29th. The summary will include:

  • Candidate’s educational background and experience;
  • A brief statement of the candidate’s educational philosophy;
  • Candidate’s educational accomplishment of which he/she is most proud.

From there, an online ballot will be created and the district staff will vote on the candidates. The election results will be reported to the superintendent by Monday, May 9th.

Summative Conferences

Summative conferences will be held all day on April 28th and 29th. Your appraiser will send out time slots for you to sign up for a conference on one of those days. All teachers must have a summative conference. You will need to complete the Professional Goal Summary Evaluation form (found in Appraise) prior to your conference. The Goal Summary Evaluation form is not currently available, but will be very soon.

If you have any questions about summative conferences, please contact your appraiser.

Teachers will need to be on lunch duty on April 28th and 29th so that Eric and I can complete all of the summative conferences.

Spring Time Reminders

Spring has sprung, and we are in the home stretch, so let's end strong!

Warmer weather means students are dressing in shorts, skirts and tank tops. Please make sure that you are enforcing the dress code with your students. Shorts/skirts must be fingertip length, and tank tops are permitted. Halter tops, spaghetti straps and strapless tops are not permitted. If a student is out of dress code, please have them go to the nurse to change. I have put dress code reminders in the parent newsletter as well.

Please be you are actively monitoring on the playground. Teachers should be positioned at separate points around the playground for optimal supervision.

Summer School

Can you believe that it's already time to start thinking about summer school??? The first step in planning for summer school is begging, I mean asking, for summer school teachers:-))) Remember last year that increased the pay!!! Here are the dates for summer school 2016:

  • June 6th - 16th: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (8:30-11:30 are student hours)
  • August 1st - 11th: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (8:30-11:30 are students hours)

I am still in need of a 3rd (both sessions) and 4th grade (June session) summer school teacher! If you would like one of those spots, I won't turn you away:-)

Required Summer PD for 2016-2017 Comp Days

Mark your calendars for summer PD on June 21 and June 22. By attending these two required PD days, you will comp out of the two exchange days next year. Grade levels will work on Lucy Calkins, Phonics, and Technology on these two days. I will have a schedule as we get closer to the end of the year, but wanted you to mark these dates on your calendar now.

2016-2017 Staffing Update

The only change in staffing from last week is that Heather Womack will split between our campus and LVIS to teach Art. Due to the growth in GT, Randenne Kelley will provide GT services to LVES, LVIS and LVMS students. This means that GT students will be seen daily during RtI time.
