ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are SHUT DOWN and PUT AWAY from 7:30a - 2:20p
- Student are expected to follow EPS expectations for cell phone use.
- There is a progressive plan if students are using their cell phone during the school day.
- If cell phone usage becomes habitual, it can lead to a parent picking up their cell phone in the Front Office.
Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
We had a great first week back from break! Students completed a brief 1-week unit on waves. Next week, we jump into the world of Geology! We will begin by studying Earth’s layers! Did you know that the Earth has two cores - a liquid outer core and a solid inner core? Students will find out why one is liquid and one is solid next week! We will continue in this unit for the month of January. Students will explore the layers of the earth, continental drift, seafloor spreading, and plate tectonics. Students will have an open-note quiz on just the layers of the Earth on January 24

Hello Thunderhawks!
This week we are beginning our unit over argumentative writing. We started with creating claims, and using factual evidence to support our claims. As we move forward, we will begin to add commentary to each claim to help explain and prove our answers. Next week we will move into our anchor text, “Should Zoos Exist”, to begin to prepare for our upcoming argumentative writing.

Message for 6th Grade Principal
Hello Thunderhawks!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.
Our word of the month for January is tolerance. Tolerance is the the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with. Tolerance can be a hard characteristic in middle school, but I challenge students to just be mindful of their words and actions when interacting with those with differing opinions or behaviors!
February 17th is our 6th grade social! It is carnival themed and is going to be a blast. Go ahead and mark it on your calendars now and be sure you’re there!
We will start our new round of Hawk Hangouts this week! You are back with your 6th grade teachers. 🙂
Reminders:
*Please make sure you are charging your Chromebook every night!
*Stay on top of your assignments! We do not want to go into Spring Break with a long list of missing assignments.
*Pay attention to weather. If it is above 35 degrees, we will be outside so bring a jacket.
*Clean up after yourselves! We do so many fun things like Kona Ice and Fun Food Friday, but we must remember to clean up any and all trash. We want to keep Heartland beautiful!
*Your Words Matter!
Be sure to THINK before you speak.
Is it True?
Is it Helpful?
Is it Important?
Is it Necessary?
Is it Kind?
Let’s make it a great week!!
