Balclutha Primary School - T1 Wk 4

Newsletter 26 February 2021

Kia Ora e te whānau,

Welcome to week four. On Monday we had our school athletics day. It was wonderful to see so many parents come along and support our students. Congratulations to all the students who have qualified for the South Otago Athletics in a couple of weeks. I'm sure they will be wonderful representatives for our school.

This week all our students have been working through the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme with Constable Gordon. I encourage parents to talk to their children about what they have been learning. This is a key part of our Health and PE programme and it is important that our children feel safe and know where to go and what to do if they feel unsafe.

Have a wonderful week,

Ngā mihi nui,

Vicki Neave

A big thank you to Balclutha New World for donating the sausages for our sausage sizzle during our Athletics Day this week. Money raised will to go towards our upcoming camps.

Thank you also to the Smith family for donating the new arrows for our archery equipment for camp! Your support is greatly appreciated and all our campers will now be able to have much more (accurate) fun!

Walk and Wheel Week

Next week is "Walk and Wheel" week and students are encouraged to ride or walk to school.

On Wednesday Balclutha Primary School will have a "Wheelie Wednesday". Students may bring their bikes or scooters to school to ride at lunch time. All students with wheels MUST wear a helmet please.

There will be a circuit set up on the concrete area in front of Room 11 and 12 for the junior students and seniors will be given the opportunity to take their wheels to the skate park over lunch time. Please remember, no wheels are permitted on the turf.

Chat Bus

We are fortunate enough to be involved in a trial for the Chatbus in the Clutha area. We will have the Chatbus visit our school every week starting this week. We have identified a small number of students who we feel may benefit from this service and will open it up to the rest of the school later in the year. Please click on the link below to read more about the Chatbus.

This week our staff joined staff from St Joseph, Waiwera South and Taieri Beach Schools to refresh their first aid certificates. First Aiders are pictured below.

P.T.A. - Whanau and School Update

So we had our meeting last night and we all have lots to look forward to this year.

We have decided to change the name of the PTA to incorporate our school community better so our new name is "Whanau and School".

We hope everyone has got their orders in for the Foodwrap & Kitchen Consumables Fundraiser - orders close today.

We require some help on the night and leading up to the event. If you can help please get in touch with Sara Sutherland on 02102372282 or email We look forward to hearing from you.

If anyone in our school community knows of any good ideas for an auction on the night, or has something they would like to donate for an auction please let us know.

Easter Raffle - next week raffle sheets will be sent home with children. We are asking for an Easter item to be donated per family starting from next week and there will be a box for all donations in the office entrance at school.

We look forward to your support.

Have a great weekend.

Room 1 has had a busy week. Athletics on Monday, Road Safety Truck on Wednesday (pictures 1 and 2 below) and a visit from Constable Gordon for Keeping Ourselves Safe on Wednesday, Thursday and today (picture 3).

Room 2

A really busy week for Room 2, with our Athletics day, visits from Constable Gordon for Keeping Ourselves Safe, and a trip to the Road Safety Truck on Tuesday. It was lovely to see so many whānau on Monday and the students were excited to show off their running, throwing and jumping skills. It hardly feels like we’ve had time to fit in any extra learning but the class has also been writing about athletics day and below we are working hard on our basic facts in maths.
