Magnet Students
Be aware that magnet acceptance letters go out this week. The district has made the determination that they will not add teachers to our school to accommodate magnet students. So this means that we only accept students if we have seats available. Based on our current numbers, there are no seats available in grades 1-5 and only 12 available seats in kindergarten. The lottery determines who those 12 students are for K. If we have low numbers after kindergarten registration, we can accept more, predetermined from lottery selection. This does not include current magnet students or those with zone exception. If you have questions about this process, let me know.
6 Flags Reading Info
Please remember to input your students' reading info into the google doc by March 1. If you have questions, email Megan. :)
Small Group Math Plans
As we discussed and you shared last week with Brenda Kelley and Tonna Marroni, guided math plans are truly the key to success when it comes to student growth. We will begin taking a closer look at small group math planning in the weeks ahead.
During planning on Wednesday, please provide Megan with a copy of your small group math plans. We want to see the great things you are doing! Remember- there's no magic formula for this!
The week ahead...
Monday:
- Fire Drill!
- Interim reports sent home
Tuesday:
- No meeting - work on your Talent Show Act and TOY/EOY nominations, coming to you separately by email. The Talent Show is next Friday, March 9.
- I will be out of the building at a data training in Spartanburg.
Wednesday:
- Grade-Level Planning
Thursday:
- We will not have RTI meetings. Please be sure that all students who have been highlighted in your data forms are entered into Enrich for documentation. Only a few teachers have communicated with Mr. Cobbs about any difficulties in entering students into the database. Our next RTI meeting will include reviewing current data in Enrich so it is important your students in RTI are entered and baseline and progress monitoring information is up-to-date.
Friday:
- 2nd grade field trip to Atlanta aquarium.
You asked, you got it!
On Wednesday, March 21, we have a trainer coming to work with you on how to use Compass Odyssey. This will take place during your related arts/planning time.
Half-Day Planning
On April 18, 19, and 23, we will be having a half-day planning day for K-5 teams. Based on your feedback in the last few meetings we've had, I'd like to offer this time to plan units of instruction and/or small group lessons. Please be thinking about what planning areas or topics you'd like to work on. More details to come!
Digital programs for students
The use of 1:1 technology has forced us to take a closer look at how we are utilizing online programs for students. With the many resources and sites out there, it's easy to say - go here and do this or that - without giving thoughtful consideration to the programs we are using. We will be talking with you and our digital integration specialists to determine exactly which programs give you the most 'bang for your buck'. Be thinking about that with your team. We'll be asking for your feedback soon.
In the meantime, be aware that every student is required to use Compass Odyssey and iStation at a minimum of 30 min. per week. This is truly a minimum amount of time as we are told that students should use these programs daily.
