The Character Effect™ Week Twenty-Two - Strength of Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the belief that everyone deserves a second chance. It is about choosing to let go of the pain and hurt others have caused you. To forgive requires recognizing that we are all humans who make mistakes. It is important to note that Forgiveness is not the same as condoning or forgetting the offensive act. Rather, it is releasing any negative feelings that you may have. Forgiveness can strengthen your relationships and make you a better team player and problem solver. The next time you lose your cool with your child(ren), apologize. Parents make mistakes too, and it’s important to model asking for Forgiveness.

Family Input for Classroom Placement
As we plan for next school year, we are often approached by families who have questions about the classroom placement process. Our primary goal is to create positive classroom learning environments for our students. The research supports heterogeneous classrooms, so we carefully consider students’ social, emotional and academic skills. Further we seek to represent our unique and diverse community in each classroom. For these reasons, we are unable to honor requests for specific classroom teachers or friend requests, we welcome, however, emails that inform us about your child’s learning needs. Some examples might include:
· “My child needs opportunities for movement throughout the day.”
· “My child excels in math.”
· “My child struggles in reading.”
Additionally, please understand due to time constraints, individual family meetings regarding classroom placement will not be honored. Please send all written requests to Clinkscalek@aaps.k12.mi.us by Friday, April 26, 2024. In the subject for the email, please write your child’s full name, grade next school year, and 2024-2025 placement - ex. John Smith, 1st Grade, 2024-2025 placement

King Elementary Attendance Procedures
- Any changes in your child's attendance - including early departures or vacations - should be sent to their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us>. The attendance is received by office staff. The sooner they know that your child is safe, the better! If possible, please let them know by 9:00am.
- Early departures can only happen before 3:20. After that, it is too close to our official dismissal time to get children to their parents safely. If possible, please let their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us> know by 9:00am (or earlier!).
- Monitor your child closely for illnesses and have them rest at home when they are sick. Office staff cover the nurse's office for 20+ hours a week in addition to other duties. Please find this helpful guide for keeping children home: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lF_GpVuZvLjbLParqW5rmS8pmE9NHYOU/view?usp=sharing
Arrival/Dismissal Plans
Arrival to school will be between 8:38 am and 8:45 am. Students will enter the building at 8:38 am. You may drop your student(s) off no earlier than 8:38 am to line up at the entrance for their grade level. After 8:45 am students will be considered tardy. Tardy students must enter through the front door by ringing the door bell.
Driveline - Parents, please do not exit your vehicle to help your child exit or enter the vehicle. Staff members will support your chid, if needed. Children should have all of their belongings in close proximity as they prepare to exit the vehicle.
Our dismissal process will begin at 3:40 pm. Students will exit through their grade level doors. KingCare students will be dismissed first, followed by bus riders, followed by walker and bicycle riders, finally by students being picked up by car (Driveline).
Before the start of each school day, please make certain that your child knows their dismissal plan for the day. Last minute changes can be confusing to children and disruptive to their day. If changes occur throughout the day, please alert the office and your child's teacher via email before noon. The office can be reached at kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us.
Please view the map for the location that your child/children will enter and exit the building here:
