Medford Elementary Newsletter
2020-21 School Year Vol. 11
Hello Medford Elementary Families,
Happy New Year! I am excited to see what 2021 has in store for each of us! We can't wait to have the students back in a routine and filling the hallways again soon! All students, PreK-6 will attend school in our In-Person Learning model starting Monday, January 11th. Our last day of Distance Learning will be on January 8th.
Students and families who chose the Distance Learning model will remain in that plan. If you are thinking you would like to change models at the start of the 3rd quarter, please inform your child's teacher or myself by January 22nd. It is our goal to have students return to a familiar setting and continue learning in a similar format they were in prior to the move to Distance Learning.
Because we had already had students In-Person this fall, we will be able to bring back all PreK-6 In-Person learners at the same time; not in a staggered format. All health and safety measures will continue to be a high priority. Masks, social distancing and hand washing remain a big part of our In-Person Learning model.

WINTER HAS ARRIVED; LET'S BE PREPARED!
How can you help Medford Elementary earn $5,000?
Hy-Vee is excited to announce a special initiative to provide some much needed support to our local schools. Hy-Vee is pledging $75,000 to support the needs of teachers and students across our eight-state region in response to the impact of the pandemic on local education. With your cooperation, your Owatonna Hy-Vee wants to help Medford Elementary possibly receive up to $5,000 of support.
During Hy-Vee’s Fuel Your School promotion, winning customers will choose which schools will receive a portion of Hy-Vee’s $75,000 donation of cash and supplies. Here’s how the promotion works:
- Between January 1–31, Hy-Vee customers are invited to shop select brands in-store and online and use their Hy-Vee Fuel Saver + Perks card at checkout. For every qualifying purchase, the customer will receive one entry into our Fuel Your School drawing.
- The first week of February, Hy-Vee will randomly select 55 winners across its eight-state region.
- 50 winners will win various prizes along with $1,000 to be awarded to a school of their choice.
- 5 grand prize winners will receive up to $500 in prizes with $5,000 awarded to the school of their choice. Additionally, Hy-Vee will provide Hy-Vee Kids Fit silicone bracelets to the entire school of their choosing.

SCHOOL CANCELLATION AND DELAY INFORMATION
Student Dismissal and Early Dismissal
Students are required to leave the building immediately upon dismissal (classroom dismissal times will be staggered) from school. Students who ride the bus should board the bus promptly after dismissal by a teacher. Students who walk or ride their bicycles should leave school grounds as soon as possible. Students who are waiting for parents, guardians, or baby-sitters to pick them up can wait by the Elementary office exit. Students are discouraged from being in the High School area at dismissal time.
The community will be notified through Radio Stations KDHL (920), KRFO (1390), and WCCO (830) as well as Television Stations 4, 5, 9 and 11 when weather conditions or other emergencies make it necessary to close school or start late. The Medford School District also uses an automated e-mail/voice service to communicate with families.
It is extremely important for families to have plans communicated well with their children in the event of an early dismissal at the beginning of each school year.
