Roadrunner Way Academy
Roadrunner Way Academy is an after-school program that students will attend following Two Major Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs) for the same type of behavior within 30 days. At Spring Road, we believe these referrals create opportunities for students to learn how to make better choices. Oftentimes, when a child receives a Major ODR he/she is sent to the office, or class time is needed to address the behavior choice. To reduce these interruptions to the learning environment and keep students in class, we have created the Roadrunner Way Academy. This academy intends to implement restorative practices to help students take ownership of their actions, learn from them, and find a way to “right the wrong”. This is not meant to be punitive but rather a way to provide natural consequences and hold students accountable for their actions as they learn how to make better choices.
Students attending Roadrunner Way Academy will stay after school from 3:05-3:45 on the Wednesday following the second Major ODR. Arrangements will need to be made to pick up your child at 3:45 PM. During this time, the children will participate in a learning circle in which expected behaviors will be retaught and modeled. Students will then be given the opportunity to practice the expected behavior. Children will present to each other how they took ownership of the incident and held themselves accountable for their actions.
As a staff, we are optimistic that the Roadrunner Way Academy will help our students learn and grow in their social and emotional development. We are hopeful that providing the opportunity for students to be accountable for their actions, experience natural consequences, and learn why their actions were not acceptable will help our students make positive choices. Please let me know if you have any questions. We appreciate your support.
We had a GREAT turn out for our Walk to School last Wednesday!
Alternative Fundraiser!
Spring Road PTO’s Alternative Fall Fundraiser
Our Alternative Fundraiser is the only fundraiser where 100% of your donation goes directly towards supporting our Spring Road students and faculty. Your contribution may be tax-deductible and directly benefits our school by supporting school-wide events, purchasing classroom materials and equipment, reducing the cost of field trips, and so much more! This fundraiser is in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door-to-door, collecting money, and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting the Spring Road PTO with your donation and helping us achieve our goals to support our students and faculty. Students are welcome to ask family, friends, etc. for donation if you so choose.
Why is Spring Road PTO doing an alternative fundraiser?
We don’t want you to bake something and then ask you to buy it aka “Bake Sale”.
We thought you might want a break from hitting up friends, family and coworkers for buying something.
We don’t want to have a walk, swim, run or any activity that has the word “thon” in it.
We know you do not have the freezer space to store cookie dough for your family and friends.
We listened to your feedback about having a break but still want to keep the Eaton’s Pizza fundraiser in the Spring time TBD Feb/Mar 2023.

PBIS!
Thank you for all of your support in kicking off the 2022-2023 school year being safe, respectful and responsible. Our school has been developing ways to best support your child(ren) in being successful in the home, school, and community environment. With this being said, our data has shown that as of October 10th, there have been 12 Major Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs) so far this school year. When digging into the data, we noticed that students were really struggling to make safe, respectful, and responsible choices on the playground. In order to decrease these numbers and allow for greater success for all students, Spring Road will be teaching specific expectations of all areas of a playground through an October Booster. Looking ahead, we will be having our 1st Quarter Celebration on November 4th. We look forward to recognizing our Roadrunner Rockstars as well as ALL of our Spring Road students on this day.
Structured Recess
How does it work?
When a child receives an ODR for physical aggression during recess, they will have structured recess for the next three days. During these 3 days, the child will meet with either Mrs. Mielke or Mrs. Luft. The student will reflect through conversation or writing about what happened. If applicable, the child will take steps to repair relationships or objects that were harmed. The student will also practice a skill that they can use next time they are in the situation. This will take about 10 minutes. Then, we will go outside and students will play an active recess game with other peers (up to 6 students) so the child can practice their skills with adult supervision and support.

The PTO Has Volunteer Opportunities Available!
We are still looking for some help in running our Eaton’s Pizza Fundraiser later this year as well as coordinating monthly social activities. Check out what we are looking for and see if there is something you can help with! Have an idea for something not on the list? Contact the PTO to discuss your social event idea at springroadpto@gmail.com

Boys and Girls Brigade Holiday Assistance
The holidays can be a stressful time for families who need financial assistance. Being aware of community resources that are available to help may make your holidays a little bit easier and a lot more enjoyable. One of those programs is the Boys and Girls Brigade Christmas Giving program. With this program, families are “adopted” and given items such as clothing and toys.
If you would like to be considered for assistance through the Brigade Christmas Giving program please contact Mrs. Mielke. You must contact Mrs.Mielke directly to be considered for this program.
For questions or to be considered for the program please email Pmielke@neenah.k12.wi.us
Please be aware that your family cannot receive assistance from the Brigade Christmas Giving program if you are also getting assistance from another program, such as the Salvation Army. Filling out and returning paperwork does not guarantee participation in the program - just consideration. You must live within the Cities or Townships of Neenah or Menasha.
