The Cougar Pounce
staying connected @ShuksanMS
April 26, 2020
In these disruptive times, we strive to provide our students and families with consistent, predictable and easy to follow messages. This is the main message we want to share about school and student engagement:
This is school. What do we expect of students?
- Participate
- Complete assignments
- Review teacher feedback
- Ask questions
We will continue to give families grace during this challenging time.
Tech issues and glitches are inevitable, so please continue to ask for help as they arise. Form link
If there are other priorities or circumstances that prevent full participation, we understand. We are here to support you and your wonderful students.
Take Care,
Matt Whitten (Principal)

Learning Questions to Ask Your Student
- Where is the best location to complete your learning?
- What are some ways you can share your learning with us?
- What are you learning this week? Why do you think you're studying these topics?
- Did you give your best effort on assignments last week? Why or why not?
6th Graders -- Want a pizza delivered to you?
All 6th graders showing exceptional* effort during this time will be entered into a weekly raffle. Every Tuesday we will select 2 students for a special Friday pizza delivery.
Our winners for last week were: Alex Vazquez-Ramirez, Jocelyn Howard, and Anita Sanchez-Mondragon!
*exceptional, extraordinary, outstanding, unusually good!
Counseling Available for Students and Families
We want parents to know that the counseling teams at SMS are still providing services and are here to support students and families. Please reach out to us for anything you would normally seek help for. The best way to contact us is via email.
Let your student know you are there for them and that this time of uncertainty will end eventually. They will need time to process it all, and it hits everyone at different times.
Please go here for more information from our counseling staff, Mr. Giles, Ms. Cowan and Ms. Besson.
BPL Book Group every Wednesday until May 27
From Jennifer Lovchik, Teen Services Librarian at the Bellingham Public Library:
We had such a great time talking with each other on Wednesday that we've decided share lunch once a week until the end of May!
