Sacred Heart of Jesus
THE SEASON OF LENT
On Ash Wednesday we celebrated a beautiful Liturgy at Sacred Heart Church presided over by Fr. Jan, hosted by Ms. Janet and our Grade 5/6 class, and with beautiful music and song performed by Taisha Lesser. During the Ash Wednesday Liturgy, ashes that have been blessed are placed on our foreheads in the sign of the cross. These ashes were once the palms used on Palm Sunday, so they are also ashes of hope. The ashes are reminders for us to journey closer to God. We support our students to: pray and reflect so we can grow closer to God; give and share our love, kindness, and consideration to others; and fast (a simple time of less) by giving up self-centred or negative thoughts and actions.
Lord,
Teach me a new freedom.
Freedom to reject comparison and to embrace uniqueness.
Freedom to cut ties with greed and feast on love.
Freedom to abstain from over-indulgence and feast on self-control.
Freedom to leave behind selfish thoughts and to focus on the needs of others.
Freedom to fend off insecurity and to embrace grace.
Lord, at this time of Lent, we thank you for the freedom you bring.
Amen
SACRED HEART LENTEN PROJECT
As a community of Faith, Sacred Heart School is collecting donations for the local food bank during the Season of Lent (Wednesday, March 26 - Thursday, April 9). We are encouraging all students and their families to help us help others in need. We have a table set up in the entrance hallway and our staff has already starting giving. If you are in a position to donate any non-perishable food during the Season of Lent, we sincerely appreciate your support. We will send home a list of food items that the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry is specifically needing to pass along to families.
*Please note: Peanut butter cannot be sent to school; however, nut and seed butters are welcome. Thank you, sincerely, for your support xo
