A Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that two full weeks have now passed. We could not have asked for a better opening. Students have gotten used to all of the new procedures and being back in school. Engagement is high during lessons and behavior is amazing! Thank you for your support because without you, success would not be possible.
Students are starting their beginning of the year testing. Whether in person or remote, students are taking reading benchmarks and diagnostic tests. Remind them to go to bed early so they can have a great start to their day.
We are excited to announce that we have officers for our PTO. They are working hard to schedule fundraisers and events that support students and staff at Stephen Decatur. Please consider joining the PTO. It is free, meets virtually, and only meets once per month. The next meeting is on September 10th. Our officers are:
Jenny Wright: President
Erica Crouch: Vice President
Jeff Collins: Treasurer
Serving the Stephen Decatur community is a blessing. Have a great weekend!

Masks and Social Distancing Compliance
Pre-screening for symptoms
Parents, please screen your children for symptoms prior to the school day. If they are sick, please keep them home. Attendance guidelines are flexible this year. Please look for the following symptoms and keep students home that display any of the following:
Fever at or above 100 degrees
Congestion or runny nose
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
Sore throat
Muscle pain or fatigue
Chills
New loss of taste or smell
If you thy are in close contact with any symptomatic person within the last two weeks
Nurse Visit
Parents will need to make appointments to turn in medication at the school. You can do that by calling 317-241-0183 and asking for the nurse.
- Children showing any symptoms from the list above will be sent home to quarantine for 10 days. The may return after the days if they are symptom free AND when they fever free for 24 hours without medication. They may return sooner if they get diagnosed with something else that caused their symptoms. These are Marion County Health Department guidelines. Thank you for understanding as we continue to keep a safe environment here at Stephen Decatur.
Visitors
Visitors are prohibited from entering the building this year. Parents and others will not be able to eat lunch with students or volunteer in classrooms. Field trips and guest speakers are cancelled this year. Convocations and celebrations will be virtual.
When dropping off a student after 7:55, use the front door, Door 2. Only the child will enter the building. To pick up a child, parents will need ID to show at the door for verification. Students will then be released to the parent. Please call ahead if/when you will need to pick up your child before dismissal. If additional information is needed by the parent, the parent may call in to the front office or use the speaker option to share this information.
