Message from your PTA
JOG-A-THON: Everyone is excited for the big event on Friday, September 7th. Information about what to expect on the day of the event went home on August 29th. Please also stay tuned for more info via email and social media.
Here’s a flashback video of the 2017 Jog-a-thon fun, which the students watched at the 8/22 assembly.
This event relies on coordination from staff, teachers and volunteers to make the busy day run smooth! We divided volunteer shifts into 30 minute slots allowing everyone time to cheer on their students. We recommend for you to volunteer before and after your student is on the track. Our goal is to have 11 volunteers from each grade level!
Parents are encouraged to cheer students on while walking/jogging the track. Hold up handmade signs, blow bubbles, shake pom-poms, spray water...anything to keep up the motivation! The cheering section is anywhere in the grass around the track and chairs will be set-up in the shade for spectators.
Only Penngrove Panthers are allowed on the track during Jog-a-thon. Siblings and parents are only allowed on the grass. This is for everyone's safety and to allow students the space to be successful.
Thank you for your cooperation and time! If you haven’t already, please sign up to volunteer here!

Message from our STEM program
We’re just a few short weeks away from our Cardboard Challenge inspired by Caine’s Arcade! Our community build/playday is on September 21st. Click here for invitation and details. We’d love to have as many adult volunteers as possible. Also, students in grades 2-6 should be bringing home a letter in the next week with specific recycled building supplies that they think they need. Kindergarten and 1st grade will be bringing home a suggested list. If you don’t see this letter come home, be sure to have a family conversation about the project and brainstorm some ideas for supplies! Here is a list of common supplies that students need:
cardboard (flat or a box)
string
foil
duct tape
plastic bottles and/or bottle caps
egg cartons
toilet paper tubes
paper towel tubes
We’ll see you on September 21st. Thanks for your support!

Life Skills at Penngrove
Each month our school focuses on learning and exhibiting a particular Life Skill. We highlight a different character trait through class discussions, activities and read aloud. Our Life Skill program is an essential part of helping our students learn and practice positive character traits.
Master Schafer introduces the Life Skill at the beginning of each month during the 8:20 a.m. Wednesday assembly. Each week teachers submit certificates of recognition to students for exhibiting the Life Skill. These students are announced during the Wednesday assembly and get their photo taken as a group. Sometimes the photos are included in the local Community Voice newspaper too!
Here is what Master Schafer says about the program: "The best thing about the Life Skill program is that the whole month is dedicated to just that Life Skill. The teachers and staff are focused on giving positive attention to the students that display those specific attributes. Mrs. Fadeji is working hard to bring other perspectives on the Life Skills to keep it fresh for the students! I love the innovative ways that our school is constantly looking to improve the quality of education for the kids!"
If you are wondering what Life Skills we focus on check out the new directional sign at the top of the parking lot stairs, or simply ask your student!
Self portraits are up in the multi!
Freddy's Creation Station
We need volunteers for lunch to bring out Freddy's Creation Station! (a maker space on wheels!) Can you help on Mondays? If so, email Mrs. Fadeji at afadeji@petk12.org.
Message from Mentor Me
Hello Penngrove families. September is starting off really well as we have two more mentees meeting their mentors this month! One thing mentees do a lot of when they are spending time with their mentees is eating! The Mentor Me room is always stocked with healthy snacks for them, but we are running low. If you are making a Costco or Target run - please consider purchasing an extra package of snacks to donate to our students in the Mentor Me program! Thank you and let me know if you have any questions or concern Sarah Keiser 707-332-5969 skeiser@wrmm.org.
Message from the Garden & Environmental Education Program
The kinders are doing a fantastic job of watering their garden beds. Peas and carrots are coming up in neat rows. A few volunteer lettuces, kale and spinach and beets are sprinkled here and there. We installed a “play structure” for the peas to climb on!
First graders discovered the bug viewers which show an insect’s back and underside view. Finding an insect takes focus and patience. Working on that!
Second graders have planted a few things - peas are coming up.
Third graders sketched a variety of different seeds. They are all so different and interesting.
Fourth graders read and evaluated several primary or humorous books about earthworms and toured the worm bins and got up close with magnifying glasses.
Fifth and sixth graders are working on school clean up and beautification, as well as saving seeds in origami seed packets.
Everyone tasted sweet, juicy Bartlett pears this week and heard a student written story called Patty Pear Has an Adventure. We learned that pears are a source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.
The Imagine this... Story Writing Contest is open now.
