During the Aug. 11 Special Board meeting, the Walled Lake Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a motion to ask the residents of the Walled Lake School District to renew the half mill levy for the District Building and Site Sinking Fund (.5 mil, 10 year levy). The election for this renewal is Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.
The District will be hosting three different community presentations for ALL members of the Walled Lake Schools community to attend and learn more about the Sinking Fund and its renewal. Dates, times and locations are listed below:
- Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6pm - Keith Elementary
- Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30pm - Dublin Elementary
- Monday, Oct. 17 at 6pm - WL Western High School
In Walled Lake Schools, our schools and facilities are in good repair as a result of the Sinking Fund that voters approved back in 2004 and renewed in 2012. The District has been able to complete construction, repair and renovation projects annually, with Board approval, because of the current Building and Site Sinking Fund.

WLE Will Get New Playground Structure Thanks To Record Fundraising
Bursts of color flew through the air as students ran circles around the field behind Walled Lake Elementary School on Friday. The Color Run is one of the biggest highlights for the Tigers every school year.
This year the excitement outmatched any from year’s past. Walled Lake Elementary fundraised more than double its efforts than ever before, $20,372. The money raised will pay for a brand new ninja-style playground structure, which will be installed this coming summer. This structure is something they’ve been working towards since student council came up with the idea in 2019.
“This year we didn’t just have student donations and family donations, we also had community and business sponsors,” said Walled Lake Elementary principal, Julia Amann. “Seeing the whole community rally around our school, it’s just so heartwarming… It was so overwhelming but in a great way.”
Mrs. Amann was the first to admit, she wasn’t sure the school would reach their goal of $15,000, which also meant the highest fundraising class would have the opportunity to sink her in a dunk tank. Lucky for Mrs. Amann, it was nearly 70 degrees that afternoon.
“They had been talking about it all week, so watching them be excited made me excited for it,” said Mrs. Amann.
Shannon Cipriano’s 3rd grade class dunked Mrs. Amann three times after the Color Run in front of cheers and laughs from the entire school.
Mrs. Cipriano’s 3rd-graders weren’t the only ones that got to enjoy their fundraising efforts. The second place class received a pizza party and the entire school will get to enjoy a pajama day, popsicles on the playground, key chain pop its, a day of extra recess, popcorn, and a teacher swap day.
“When we announced who the winners were for all the different prizes, I could hear the cheers coming from the classrooms in the office, so it was absolutely fabulous,” said Mrs. Amann. “That’s what it is all about.”

Walled Lake Competitive Marching Band Wins Regional Championship
The Walled Lake Competitive Marching Band put on a show at the Bands of America Regional Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
The combined band from Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western shined in a field that featured 33 bands from 5 states across the Midwest, including three Grand National Champions and six classification National Champions. They took first place in the AAA Class and won two of the three caption awards: Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect.
The Top 12 overall bands, regardless of classification, moved onto the finals performance, where Walled Lake took 5th place among the 33 bands competing, and finished in 3rd overall in music performance.
“I am extraordinarily proud of our students, parents, and instructional staff,” said Walled Lake Competitive Marching Band co-director Patrick Dudzinski. “The collective effort of everyone involved last weekend is a point of pride for our program.”
“Very few bands ever get to call themselves a Bands of America Regional Champion, and we are in that excellent group of bands that meet that criteria,” added fellow co-director David Rogers. “We could not be more happy for and proud of our entire band community in Walled Lake, including all of the middle school bands and elementary music programs that help prepare students for our program. We could not be successful without them.”
