Study ties college success to librarian and teacher research training in high school
"Being prepared as early as their high school freshman year had a positive impact on the higher education experience. When training happened in a partnership with a teacher and a school librarian, the impact was even greater. Sending students to the library to ask their media specialist questions wasn’t as effective as having teachers and librarians working together to instill research skills."

Researching @ the Library: American History Database
Spanning more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, American History Online revolutionizes the way students and researchers can explore the different facets of American history, with a user-friendly interface and award-winning content. The authoritative, curriculum-based material is culled from many acclaimed Facts On File and Chelsea House print titles—including the landmark Encyclopedia of American History. By providing the most comprehensive range of information in one complete resource—subject entries, biographies, primary sources, images and videos, maps and charts, and timelines—American History Online offers a virtual library of American history for educators, students, and researchers of all ages.
Google Add-ons for the Classroom
- Mindmeister lets your students take bulleted lists and convert it into a mindmap for a graphical depiction. Great way to convert a table of contents or outline for a paper into a graphic.
- Google Drive can insert a Table of Contents but it is placed inside the document. This add-on puts it in the sidebar where it is extremely useful.
- Doctopus gives teachers the ability to mass-copy, share, and manage grading and feedback for student projects in Google Drive.
- Use Highlighting Tools to highlight key areas of your document to collect, group and learn from later.
Technology @ the Library
Padlet is a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily. It works like an online sheet of paper where people can put any content (e.g. images, videos, documents, text) anywhere on the page, together with anyone, from any device. Check out how this teacher is using Padlet in the classroom.
