Traditions and History
They believe their deceased loved ones return on this day. Some families spend the whole night at the cemetery. Altars with pictures, flowers and food are made to honor them. Some paint faces like sugar skulls or wear masks. It was an original tradition of the Aztec and a holiday celebrated by the Spanish conquistadores.

Foods
Sugar skull cookies are made and iced with flowers around eyes, swirly lines and a lot of color. "Pan de Muerto" is a bread used as an offering to the spirits of passed on loved ones. This food is eaten by the family and left at the altars. Tamales are often served along with that relatives favorite meals.
