Preparing to Perform
Since I was five, I've always loved performing. There is excitement, anticipation, nervousness, fear, satisfaction...and you get to dress up!
Your child may feel a range of emotions on concert night. We have talked about some of these feelings in class. I have assured them that it's okay to be nervous or scared and to remember that everyone in the audience is rooting for them and are there to love them. We talked about one favorite thing to think about if they get nervous, or to take deep breaths, or hold a friend's hand for reassurance.
You can help your child be at his/her best by having a rest time or quiet activity on Tuesday after school. A light meal and water will help their voices to be ready. And please allow plenty of time to get ready and arrive at Meydenbauer. Feeling rushed and unprepared can intensify the nerves.
Lastly, let your child know that you're proud of him/her on the discipline, dedication, concentration and creativity it takes to perform a concert.
On with the show!
