Safety is our Top Priority

The School District of Beloit and Gaston School considers the safety of our students as a top priority. Gaston Elementary will be conducting a Safety Drill this week and next week. We will announce this as a drill so students are aware that we are practicing in case of an emergency.

This safety drill is used when there may be a safety or medical concern outside or inside the building. Staff use developmentally appropriate language to help students understand what an emergency is and why we do drills to practice for when emergencies happen.

Gaston is working in tandem with the Beloit Police Department as well as our district safety team to conduct safety drills according to Wisconsin Act 143. This act requires schools to conduct drills in an effort to prepare for an emergency.

Our best chance of avoiding a school safety issue is to be informed of any potential concerns or conversations of threats. Please reinforce with your child that if they see or hear something unsafe that they report it immediately.

If you have questions about our safety drills or feel your child may need extra support due to these drills please call, Principal Fonda Lewis at 608-361-2310.

Student COVID Screener- Skyward

The School District of Beloit is committed to keeping our buildings open during face-to-face learning. In order to do this, we will need your help. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a fairly new virus that has caused a worldwide pandemic. This virus is easily transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Some symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, new cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, or loss of taste or smell. COVID-19 can persist in the environment for hours to days depending on the surface, and, as a result, disinfection of the environment also plays a role in preventing transmission. It is very important that families keep their child home if they are sick or have had an exposure to COVID. Also, communicating this information to the school nurse is important.

We are learning new things about the virus every day, and making changes to policies and protocols as we get new information. Therefore, in order to keep everyone up to date with the most current guidelines, we thought an electronic Student COVID handbook would be the most efficient way to communicate. We are following the guidelines from the Rock County Health Department (RCHD) who mirrors the guidance of the Wisconsin State Health Department (DHS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Students who will be traveling overnight are required to complete the following form. The School District of Beloit continues to monitor and follow the recommendations and information from the CDC along with the health department.

Students at the elementary level will be randomly screened for temperatures and to check student skyward screener completion as they walk into the building and throughout the day. The intermediate and high school will check all student skyward screeners prior to entry.
