Reading

We had our kick off assembly for our school wide read aloud. The youngest student in each family was sent home with the book, The Borrowers, to share. Please take good care of the book. A handout with the reading schedule was sent home as well, but you can refer to Mrs. Lutz's website for the schedule and podcasts of each chapter. Students are encouraged to interact and comment on the blog. Mrs. Lutz spent time with each class instructing on how to do this process.

This is a part of our at home reading homework, but there will be no written assignments to coincide. Please just enjoy the book with your family :).

Happy Reading!

Math

In math, students are working on multiplication and division of fractions, multiplication and division of decimals, and graphing. Students all have access to Google Classroom for additional practice and help with concepts. This content may be accessed on your home computer with the same password and username that they use at school.

We will also welcome a student teacher from Millersville to our math classroom during January. Miss Stephanie Winslow will join us for six weeks. She is an Elementary Education major with an emphasis on math education in grades 4-8. We are looking forward to working together in all of our math classes.

Our Case of the Tricky Triplets was solved by quite a few fifth graders! Out of the correct answers, the winning ticket that was drawn belonged to Janelys Bristol! Congratulations to Janelys! Well done!

Science

With the new year came a new curriculum--SCIENCE!! We finished Social Studies and have moved on to Rocks and Minerals (chapter 7). Ask to see your child's new Earth Science Interactive Notebook.

"No Missed Assignments" Celebration

Fifth graders with no missed assignments for the first trimester were invited to watch National Treasure to celebrate this accomplishment. This movie follows our Social Studies curriculum and gives the students some background information for our field trip to Philadelphia at the end of the year.
