Archery Competes Well in Local Tournament
Last weekend, the Southwood Academy Archery Team competed in the Civic Center Tournament. Southwood Academy's Archery Team earned a team score of 2,933 points! (Missing from the team photo but not forgotten: Elijah Williams and Cassidy Buckner)

6th Grade Announcement
All 6th grade students must get the Tdap vaccine before starting the 7th grade! If your 6th grader has not received the Tdap vaccine, please call your health care provider or clinic (Doctor, Minute Clinic, Urgent Care, Doctor’s Care) to do so as soon as possible. This time of year, especially with Covid, appointments are not as readily available. If your 6th grader has received the vaccine, please turn in an updated vaccination record that includes Tdap as soon as possible. Your 6th grader WILL NOT be allowed to start 7th grade without this Tdap booster anywhere in the state of South Carolina. Visual Art Field Trip
Mr. Powell and nine 8th grade visual art students spent Tuesday, February 15th hanging all of the artwork for the Anderson County Youth Art Month show at the Anderson Arts Center.
Strings News
CPA Practices: In order to prepare for the upcoming CPA, 7th and 8th grade strings students will have after-school practices. The practices will be after school until 4:30 pm. The dates for these practices are Tuesday, February 22nd, Thursday, March 3rd, & Tuesday March 8th.
CPA Performances: Strings CPA will be March 10th and 11th at the Southwood Academy PAC. Thursday, March 10th, 7th and 8th grade will perform during the school day. Friday, March 11th, 6th grade will perform during the school day. All students must wear concert black or black and white for their performance days.
Strings Solo and Ensemble Festival: Strings Solo and Ensemble will be Saturday, April 23rd at Seneca Middle School. Please complete the form sent home about participation and money for Solo and Ensemble.
Dance Artist in Residence
Last week Mrs. Kay’s dance classes had an artist in residence, Ms. Hoadley! Each grade focused on different dance styles and learned a dance that Ms. Hoadley choreographed. This gave all the students a new experience and taught them more about the history of dance. 7th and 8th grade photos are above, and a video clip of 6th grade is below.

Games Club News
Games Club has had a lot of participation, but the limited number of games and passes creates issues. If you have been to Games Club at least 2 times, you are welcome to take a pass. Teachers will receive a list of students. If you have never tried Games Club and would like to, stop by the media center and talk to Mrs. Spencer.

Masks Must Be Worn on Buses
Face masks will be required on all school buses. If your child rides a school bus, please provide a mask for him or her to wear on the school bus. This new update and mandate was communicated to school districts by the South Carolina Department of Education on Thursday, August 26th. Superintendent Wilson communicated this change to all principals asking for notification be sent to all parents and students. If you have questions regarding this mandate, please contact Dr. Jerome Hudson at the Anderson School District Five District Office. The phone number is 864-260-5000. Thank you for your assistance and support as we continue to follow COVID-19 guidance to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Early Dismissal / Appointment Policies
- When you arrive at school, please call the office: 864-260-5205 to let us know you are here to pick up a student for dismissal.
- Make sure to have your license ready and press the buzzer for entrance.
- Once the door is unlocked, be prepared to show your license through the window while you will remain in the foyer. Please DO NOT enter the office area.
- We will have a sign-out sheet in the foyer. Please know that we will get your student to you as quickly as we can.

1. Take the temperature of any child demonstrating shortness of breath, loss of taste, sore throat, muscle aches, chills, new or worsening cough, or runny nose.
2. Keep the child at home one or more days to monitor symptoms.
3. If you decide to have a COVID-19 test, notify the school nurse of the results so that the school can implement the Enhanced Health and Safety Protocols in the classroom(s) where your child attended.
*All information will remain confidential between the school and family. No other families will be given the health information of your child.

Robert Anderson Cheerleading Tryouts
Robert Anderson Middle School Cheerleading Tryouts will be held February 28 - March 3 at Robert Anderson. If students are interested, they will need to complete this google form. Once you complete the form, you will be emailed the tryout packet which includes steps and forms for them to complete and return to RAMS. The deadline to sign up is Monday, February 21st.
