Greetings Families!

This will be the first of many newsletters throughout this 2022-2023 school year. My name is Deborah Showalter and I am the new Family Ambassador here at CAHS. My role is to be a bridge of communication between the staff and the families. We want each caregiver to be well-equipped to understand what is going on at the school and work together with their student to have a very fulfilling year of learning. We especially want to extend a warm welcome to our new CAHS students and families! We are so glad you are here.

Important Dates

Sept. 7: Fall Play Auditions (sign up for a time on board outside of room 220)

Fall Play Auditions: Wed. Sept. 7 and Thurs. Sept. 8

Auditions for She Kills Monsters will be held on 09/07-09/08 in the Auditorium. Call backs will be held on Thursday in the auditorium at 3:15 and will consist of cold readings from the script. Those called back for Evil Gabi and Evil Tina may be asked to dance. Please sign up for an audition time on the form on the callboard outside of room 220. Please see the She Kills Monsters Character Description flier for roles and casting information. 12-16 roles are available!


Those auditioning should prepare a 30 second to one minute monologue from a contemporary play. You may opt to do a cold reading provided at the audition if you do not have a monologue prepared.


Stage Crew/Tech Interviews: All students and Thespians interested in technical or crew positions should plan on attending a quick interview to be held on Monday, September 12th. Please sign up for an interview time on the form on the callboard outside of room 220


Everyone auditioning or interviewing must fill out and bring a completed audition form (found on the call board outside of 220) to their audition or interview. PLEASE BE EARLY FOR YOUR AUDITION OR INTERVIEW AND BE PREPARED! Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 15 at 2:45 in 220. Crew work days will begin on Monday, September 19. Please see Mr. Shirley in room 220 or a CAHS Thespian if you have any questions.


Performance Dates: October 27-29, 2022

PTA Updates

The PTA would love to see you at its first meeting on Thursday, September 8, 2022, 6:30 p.m. It will be on Zoom (see link below) with the possibility of an in-person meeting.


We will set the priorities for the year, including spirit wear, the (hopeful) return of the Gala, teacher appreciation, spruce-up days, support for student events, and more. Nothing happens without volunteers to do the work. Please join us if you can. There are no required dues. All are welcome!

Internship Experience Information from Ms. Smith

Juniors and seniors (and families)! I want to provide you with resources that will help you as you plan for the CAHS Internship Experience that will run from October 2022 through May 2023. On the Google Classroom (access code dmapows) you'll find a video with an overview of our program and ways to navigate the space. Please note - Columbus Downtown High School and full-day CCP students do not participate in the CAHS Internship Experience but will still be required to obtain 120 internship hours for graduation.


All juniors and seniors who take classes at CAHS participate in our program. We wholeheartedly believe that our students experience tremendous professional and personal growth through their participation in the CAHS Internship Experience. Families are encouraged to check out the resources below. Items #5-7 are required of every participating student.

We have several partners who are looking to fill their internship positions soon before they open these to other districts. If you do not see a site that aligns with your interests or skills, begin reaching out to agencies/companies that are geographically feasible for you. Keep a record of sites you reach out to using the Internship Outreach Record Keeping form in Classroom.


Seniors will begin internship on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 and juniors begin Wednesday, October 19, 2022. The final day for all students will be Wednesday, May 17, 2023.


Our goal is for all students to have a confirmed internship site no later than September 21st. This gives us time to work with those students who need extra support prior to the first day of internship.


Fort Hayes Career Center, IB Diploma Programme candidates, part-time CCP, and students making up coursework through APEX** will intern 3-5 hours each Wednesday due to having in-person learning requirements on those days. All other CAHS students will intern 5-8 hours each Wednesday.

**Students who are making up courses required for graduation through APEX will have individualized plans made that take into consideration how many are needed and anticipated completion. Grade level administration will meet with students to discuss personalized internship plan.

Student Drivers

Please fill out the form on the link below if you plan to drive any day during the school year.


Student drivers should park in the middle parking spots and the spots directly across from the building (auditorium) at the beginning of the driveway at the parking lot entrance. Student drivers are not permitted to leave the lot until after ALL CCS Bus Transportation has left the lot. Safe speed and following distance must be followed in the parking lot.


*Tags for registered cars have not yet arrived but students may continue parking in the lot for the time being. Tags will be distributed as soon as possible.
