Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Ahoy, Pirates!
Love is in the air! After all, Valentine's Day is Friday! Love is quite easy to see and feel. Our students know immediately if we love what we do by how we do it and how we talk about our work. I also encourage you to continue to use love when working with children in crisis. In the October 2019, Educational Leadership journal, Rita Platt, wrote an article entitled "What's Love Got to Do with It?" In the article, she contends that it has everything to do with keeping our students safe. It is the relationship between the student and the trusted adult that helps him/her deal with traumatic situations. She offered the following as helpful strategies:
- Support students in a meltdown.
- Build relationships.
- Offer tools to help students self regulate.
- Teach students to scale the problem and the response.
- View students as more than their trauma.
These principles are discussed more in-depth in the article, which can be found by clicking the link below:
Spread love! Happy Valentine's Day! With that, I submit the Captain's Log. #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje

This March, households will begin receiving Census 2020 mail outs. During the last Census, Mississippi lost a congressional district and representation. Our schools stand to lose federal dollars as well. For the first time in history, you will be able to respond online as well as traditional ways - by mail or phone.

Young Singers Workshop
From Mrs. Vernon and Mrs. Bayer: What a great day!!!! The Pass Christian School District had 50 students attend the Young Singers Workshop! This was a great opportunity for our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students to attend a one-day honor choir event that concluded with a concert for the public. We had a total of 133 students from across South Mississippi participate. Everyone had a great time and the kids unanimously said they’d love to do it again next year! That’s what we call success!
