Reading and Writing

Read Alouds:

Phonics:

*Children will add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words. RF.K.2e

*Children will continue applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. RF.K.3

*Children will associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. RF.K.3b

*We will continue our focus on reading emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding. RF.K.4

Math


*We will continue working on solving addition and subtraction word problems and adding and subtracting within 10 by using objects or drawings K-OA1 K-OA2




* We will continue decomposing numbers less than or equal to 10 by using objects or drawings (10= 4+ 6 and 10 = 7+ 3). K-OA3




*We will continue working on fluently adding and subtracting within 5. K-OA5

Unit Study

We will complete our study of plants.

We will begin a unit on zoo animals.

*We will be comparing the size, shape,and basic needs of animals. KS6

Important Reminders

*Field Trip to Children's Theater- Wednesday, April 11th.

Wear field trip shirt. Your child will need a sack lunch and drink from home unless you pre-ordered one from the lunchroom.


*Field Trip to Birmingham Zoo- April 25th

Wear Field trip shirt and tennis shoes.

Bring sack lunch and drink.

Parents will need to meet in the bottom of the Publix parking lot and carpool to the zoo. E-mail with more details for chaperones coming soon.



*Please make sure you are reading with your child each night. Your child should be finishing the word lines/sentences in his/her folder and completing all three trimesters of sight words within the next few weeks. If they have already completed the folder, they should be reading the books that are being sent home in their folder and practicing the next set of sight words(100 words, Dolch word list...) each night.
