GUEST ELEMENTARY 2017-2018 “GROWING WILDCAT CHAMPS” RAFFLE AND COLOR SPLASH & DASH

The Guest PTA is proud to announce our 2017-2018 fundraising effort! The PTA sponsors many great events for student enrichment and family fun. Our PTA funds reading programs, classroom technology, educational assemblies, Spelling/Geography Bees and more. This year the PTA has many awesome events planned, including our ice cream social, run club, family dance, G.R.A.N.D., the annual variety show and our yearly carnival. To help pay for all of these wonderful opportunities, Guest asks families to participate in our biggest fundraiser, The Growing Wildcat Champs Raffle and Color Splash & Dash. The more funds we raise, the more amazing things we can provide for our children and our school.

Attached to the letter that went home October 2, you will find ten raffle tickets. We are hoping that every student will sell at least ten tickets to family and friends over the course of the next few weeks. Cash prizes will be drawn at our Color Splash & Dash.

Growing Wildcat Champs Raffle Tickets:

The safety and well being of our children is our first and foremost concern! Guest families are encouraged to sell tickets to friends, family and co-workers.

Student Incentives:

Yes! We are raising money for our students – with an ultimate goal that all children feel engaged and rewarded for their hard work and efforts. The Growing Wildcat Champs Raffle drawing will be held at the end of the run. This is a fun-filled Color Run for the entire family. The run, which is sponsored by PTA, will be held at Guest, beginning at 5:30pm. ELEMENTARY ENGINEERING EXPLORATION DAY

Saturday, November 11th, 2017
10:00 AM - 1:30 PM

Does your child show an interest in math or science? Are you interested in what engineering careers are available for your child? EEE Day is a great opportunity to for your kids to learn about what engineering is! We strive to teach elementary school students that engineering can be a fun and creative career.

Who: For Elementary students grade 1 - 5. Parents can come as well!
Where: University of Michigan's North Campus, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Why: It's important to encourage kids to learn more about science and math early on to start building the skills and confidence in their abilities. Engineering is more than just the technical stuff. It develops creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills which are all important skills that are used on a daily basis.

Further information about the event and how to register will be posted early October!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

THIRD-GRADE READING RETENTION LAW

Being a good reader is critical for children to be successful in school. In 2017, the Michigan Legislature implemented the Third Grade Reading Law to ensure that students exit third-grade reading at or above grade level, which will impact the current 2017-2018 first-grade students by the time they are in third-grade.

In accordance with this law, and as a means of better informing classroom instruction, districts will be providing K-3 reading assessments to students across the state. These assessments will identify students who need intensive reading instruction and intervention, and will also provide useful information to help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual student needs.

You may also visit the WLCSD website by clicking HERE for more information.

LOST & FOUND

Please remember to write your child's name on the tags of coats, sweaters, hats, gloves/mittens, etc. and also on lunchboxes, Lost & Found is full.
