We have reached an agreement in teacher negotiations related to department chairs/team leaders for next year at the middle school. Below is the MOU language. Principals will need to meet with department chairs/site council to reach consensus about the structure for next year. Once the structure is determined, you can follow the process for nominations and selection in the current contract MOU.


EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016

For the 2015-2016 school year, each Middle School will have from ten (10) to fourteen (14) Team Leaders as determined in collaboration with the principal and department chairs. Decision-making will be by consensus. If consensus cannot be reached by September 18, 2015, the structure will default to the current contract.

Team Leaders include grade-level teams, curricular teams, or specialist/exploratory teams.


Family Illness Leave and Bereavement Leave

We have agreed to updated language that matches state statute and provides for greater flexibility for family illness leave and bereavement leave.

MOU Sick Leave Incentive for PEHCA

We had a long discussion about the incentive. As written, the current language is noncompliant with the IRS.

District Proposal: If an employee has 80 or more sick days remaining, and uses two or fewer days during the 2014-2015 school year, then they will convert two sick days at the substitute rate of pay ($135 per day) into the existing PEHCA account.

We will continue to discuss options.

Schedule C

We reviewed the work of the Schedule C subcommittee:

Recommend adding Badminton.

Recommending adding Fall Marching Band and Elementary Musical.

We also discussed adding an Activity Manager at each of the high schools. Both the district and the Union decided the position doesn't belong in Schedule C. The union proposes to raise the rate of pay for activity supervision duties.

Next Steps

The district and the union will meet for four dates over the summer:

6/15, 7/8, 7/23, and 8/11.
