FMS BLAST
March 14, 2022
Quarter 3 Progress Reports are now visible on the PowerSchool portal. These will not be mailed home. Please check your child’s grades online.
**With only the final quarter left in the school year it is extremely important that students appropriately prepare for the remainder of the year. If students receive a D or an F in English or Math at the end of either semester, they will be expected to attend summer school. Parents will be notified about summer school by the student’s counselor.
MASKS ARE NOW OPTIONAL TO BE WORN WHILE ON THE FMS CAMPUS. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, CDPH, AND SACRAMENTO COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH STILL STRONGLY RECOMMEND MASKING UP BUT THE CHOICE TO DO SO, OR NOT, WILL BE UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT OR STAFF MEMBER. WE WILL RESPECT EVERYONE’S PERSONAL CHOICE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION. THANK YOU.
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN 7TH GRADE
All students in grade 7 will have the Internet Safety Presentation provided to them by Officer Bates, one of the FCUSD SROs, in their PE class on Monday, March 28, 2022. We encourage parents to follow up this presentation with a conversation at home about the information presented.
The Internet can be a dangerous place and we want to make sure that all our students are prepared to handle the Internet safely. This is an important presentation, and we hope that students will not miss school on this date so they can partake in this experience. For further information, please feel free to reach out to the school administration.
Thank you.
PLEASE NOTE: With spring quickly approaching, and the weather warming up, we need to remind parents and students on the importance of following the school dress code. The code is explicitly laid out in the parent/student handbook which is accessible on the FMS webpage.
The important issues to be aware of are:
Students should not be showing any part of their stomachs. Midriffs are not allowed. Students should have all undergarments not visible. This means no sagging pants or spaghetti strapped tops. If staff can see undergarments, including bra straps, students will be sent to the counseling office for a loaner shirt. Also, there should be no derogatory language on shirts or hats. Our board policy states: Apparel must be free from bias based on race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status or other protected characteristics.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US WITH MONITORING DRESS CODE AS WE MOVE TOWARD THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

PARKING LOT ISSUES
This is a FRIENDLY REMINDER:
We are well aware of the parking challenges at Folsom Middle School. We are excited to begin the FMS modernization project this coming summer. However, until our parking lot is updated, we must ALL remember that safety in the parking lot is of utmost importance.
We have 1350 students, all who are dismissed at the same time. We ask parents to be courteous and safe when picking up students. Please follow the safety regulations and be aware of the challenges we face when our parking lot is full.
The parking lot by the church is for BUSSES, STAFF, AND PARENTS OF OUR SPED STUDENTS ONLY. Staff is continuously having to tell parents that this parking lot is not for student pick up or drop off. Please help us out by NOT using this parking lot for this purpose. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is necessary for all of us to work together for the safety of all.
Thank you for adhering to the parking lot safety rules.
FMS SPRING BOOK FAIR IS NOW UNDERWAY
The book fair is taking place this week (March 14-18, 2022) in the FMS Library. We hope all students will stop by the library to check out all the cool items that are on display. And, of course, all the wonderful books available for purchase. As Dr. Seuss said:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Students will be taking the state spring testing this school year. Please note the CAASPP assessments will be given at FMS during the weeks of April 25th and May 2nd. It is extremely important that all students attend school during these days. More information will follow as the dates draw nearer.
FMS HANDS 4 HOPE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
The FMS chapter of Hands 4 Hope has chosen to fundraise for the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary and students are asked to provide supplies to the cause in their advisory classrooms between March 14-30. The advisory class with the most donations will win a party so students are encouraged to participate in this activity.
In addition to this there is also a dine in/dine out Fundraiser going at Panera Break located at the Palladio this coming Wednesday, March 16th. For more information on the Panera Fundraiser, please click the link below:
If your student needs to take medication at school, please fill out a medication form. All medications must be checked-in through the health office. This includes over-the-counter medication and remedies. All medications must be in the original packaging.
Did You Know?
Students from Mrs. Barrie’s and Mrs. Schreiber’s 6th grade Integrated Science classes recently presented group presentations to Dr. Daniels and other staff on their ideas for decreasing the carbon footprint on the FMS campus. These innovative students came up with several AWESOME ideas for tackling this issue. Here are some of their suggestions:
· Add solar panels
· Use of compost bins
· More recycling cans around campus
· Plant a sustainable garden
· Grow fruits and vegetables to serve at lunch or bring to Farmer’s Market
· “Litterless Lunch Challenge”
· Plant trees around campus
· More bike racks/scooter & skateboard storage to encourage students to bike and/or walk to school (save on gas and car exhaust from the parking lot)
· Create a ‘waste-free’ campus
· Outdoor Classrooms
· Use of Table Whiteboards (save on paper waste)
· Use biodegradable utensils/trays at lunch
· Use of Online Notebooks (save paper)
· Electric Busses
· Create a Gardening Elective
· Install Rooftop Gardens
· Plant more moss
· Place stickers on garbage cans/recycling for more appropriate use of bins
· Recycled plastic for benches/clothes project
· Create an efficient carpool Lane in parking lot
· Install a Greenhouse on campus
· Advisory classes to devote days for picking up trash
· Biking/Walking to school Club
· More LED light bulbs installed
· Go GREEN Competition
· Add link on website for sharing of more ideas
The presentations were quite impressive, and the administration is working to see how many of these ideas can be incorporated at FMS. We are proud of our students’ ingenuity and their desire to impact their school campus, and the earth, in such a positive way. Way to go, Jaguars! Keep up the good work and keep those impactful ideas flowing. YOU ARE THE FUTURE AND THE ONES WE WILL BE TURNING TOWARD TO SOLVE THESE VERY REAL PROBLEMS.
