A Look at Our Week
Snow day!!!! On Friday, your children were so excited about the snow. They ran around catching snowflakes on their tongues during afternoon recess, and described all the things that they were going to do when they woke up on Saturday morning. I was very relieved that the weather delivered, and I hope that they've all had a good chance to enjoy the snow over the past three days!
This week, in our Leader In Me sessions, we are going to be learning about habits. We will be identifying good and bad habits that we have, and setting a class goal for the month aimed at either starting a new good habit, or leaving behind a habit that is not helpful. The class will decide what their habit will be as a group, and we will be recording our progress over the next 30 days learning the habit. I will update you next week as to what our class habit will be. We will also be setting personal goals for developing a new habit, and your child will record their own progress each day of the month at developing this habit. This ties in beautifully with last week's "New Year's Resolutions" writing theme. Your children have great intentions for personal growth this year! Ask your child, at the end of the week, what habit they will be working on over the next month.
It has begun to get exciting in Fundations! We have learned all the letters/sounds and keywords, and now we are working on building and tapping out words. This is often a semester of rapid reading growth in the Kindergarten classroom. The foundations have been set, and now we start building the house. I hope that you are witness to this flourishing in your child's literacy skills over the next few months. Keep reading with/to them nightly, and playing games with those sight words. When my boys were in Kindergarten, I used to play a game where they got to keep the card if they knew the word, and I would earn the card if they didn't. Then we would count them up at the end to see who had "won". This worked well for them as they were competitive, but you know what would work best with your own child.
