Woodside Senior Day 2023 #Nextsteps

Our seniors have been on quite the educational journey and lived through a global pandemic. Woodside HS teachers have helped prepare our seniors achieve a "Sense of Accomplishment," "Confidence to Take Action," and multiple opportunities to demonstrate "Leadership & Responsibility." On May 4th, we celebrated the Class of 2023 and watched them "sign" their name and destination showing their commitment to their "Next Steps" with their Wildcat "Spirit of Adventure" to do great things!

Seniors began the Woodside tradition of painting the Admin Office windows with specially designed paint pens with their college logo or college name where they have committed. Stop by campus and walk by our admin office and check out our painted windows as these served as a colorful backdrop for our #nextsteps signing day and inspiration for our underclassmen. The windows will stay painted through Graduation on June 9th.

Message from the Principal

Dear Woodside HS Community:

Special thanks to our PTSA, ELAC, Alumni families and our District Office who arranged daily delicious treats for a thoughtful Educator Appreciation Week!

Take a moment to read the Presidential Proclamation on National Teacher Appreciation Day (May 10th) and National Teacher Appreciation Week. I would like to echo the sentiments shared in the proclamation and want our teachers to know that I'm proud to work alongside them amid the seemingly endless challenges we continue to face in our endeavors. The proclamation reads, "Teaching is a calling — a way to live out the belief that we can shape , our corner of the world, one student at a time. But shaping that world demands a lot." The demands are real and ensuring our students' success requires dedication, creativity, adaptability, perseverance, and community.

We know that our Woodside community supports our schools and our teachers. When you give to the Woodside Foundation, this is one of the best ways to show your appreciation. The Woodside Foundation Auction is live, and we are incredibly grateful for our annual campaign efforts and looking forward to a successful Fund-a-Need continuing our focus on our College and Career Access Program. Click here to view this year’s video. All the efforts of our Foundation help us maintain and improve our instructional and enrichment programs and help to maintain smaller class sizes.

Between May 1-12, 542 Woodside students in grades 9-12 will have participated in over 1,000 Advanced Placement exams in 22 different courses. MANY thanks to our students for their commitment to their studies, to our teachers for their dedication to teaching what is equivalent to college level coursework and to all our proctors. And very special thanks to our AP Coordinator, Math teacher Mr. Igoe, Ms. Lupe Robles-Flores who handles all the behind the scenes preparation for each exam and IVP Ms. Cara Klackle for her attention to detail to ensure that all students received their accommodations and that we provided the best testing environment possible. Thank you!

WHS Spirit Week: May 15 - 19

The leadership program is hosting a spring spirit week next week, May 15-19. Each day staff and students are encouraged to dress up according to the theme of the day. At lunch there will be activities and music in the quad.

The spirit days are:

Monday 5/15: Tie-Dye Day

Get ready for the warm weather by wearing some fun beach attire. Please no bathing suits. Come out the quad to make large bubbles or make a sand castle.

Wednesday 5/17: Anything but a backpack Day

Use that sense of creativity and find something to carry your items to school that is NOT a backpack. Please no store shopping carts.

Thursday 5/18: Rhyme without reason Day

Get a partner and dress up. Each pair is to dress to a theme that rhymes. For example DJ & PJ, Athlete & Wall Street.

The ABO Needs Parent Leadership

Attention All Parents of Athletes!

The ABO appreciates all of your monetary donations, your time spent driving your student to and from sporting events, and your energy in cheering on the teams. Thank you for supporting our Wildcats!

It's time to get more involved with Woodside athletics! We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of parent volunteers who help with the ABO, but we are in need of a new volunteer to take on the leadership of the ABO for 2023/2024. Our current president, Meredith McLean, is willing to help advise our new leader. This job can be shared so find a friend and volunteer together!

Tutorial + PAPER + the DEN + Quiet Study = Academic Success

Second semester is the ideal time for our students to make a new year's resolution and take advantage of the many ways to stay on top of their academics and their learning. Are you:

  • Using Tutorials fully and effectively?
  • Using the DEN after school to receive tutoring from teachers (MUR with snacks!)
  • Using Quiet Study in the Library to get work finished?
  • Using the on-line FREE Paper tutoring service?
  • Using CANVAS effectively, planning and managing your time?
  • Using the College and Career Counseling Center for questions about college applications, scholarships and all things college-related?
  • Using the Mental Health resources available for all students in F14?
  • Using the bilingual resources available to you from Mr. Stewart or Mrs. Lopez?

If you answered NO to any of the above, it's time for you to take some proactive actions to make positive changes to help yourself. If you don't know where to start, stop by your school counselor or administrator or ask any one of your teachers to get help.

Tutorial During the School Day

  • Students have a chance to start homework and ask for help within the school day

  • Students can make up work from absences without using brunch/lunch

  • Access to all of a student’s teachers in one given time period-- all teachers are in their rooms.

  • Do the things that might normally interrupt class time like surveys, counselor meetings, school-wide activities, etc.
