Violet Views December 2019
HOME OF THE SUPERVIOLETS
Principal's Message
We hope that all of our families had an unforgettable Thanksgiving Holiday! In December, days always seem to fly by quickly, so we have much work to do in a short period of time. We will begin our winter benchmark assessments December 9-20, so we can know for certain what progress our students have made over the first semester. The data that we receive from our benchmark assessments also provides an opportunity for teachers to plan for the second semester to ensure that we are individualizing student learning.
As winter approaches, please remember to send students with coats, hats, and
gloves, as the weather is always unpredictable. We do send students outside to play during recess, as long as the wind chill is above 25 degrees, to assure that students get plenty of physical activity.
We would like to send out well wishes to all of our families over the holiday season and in the New Year!
Sincerely,
Dee Copas
YMCA Van Buren Shelter Toy Drive
As we shared in October, Violet Elementary is continuing its partnership with the YMCA and the Van Buren Shelter again this school year. The YMCA operates the largest homeless shelter in Central Ohio; The Van Buren Shelter. The Van Buren Shelter serves as home to about 200 children during the holidays. Our goal at Violet is to make sure each child has two gifts to open on Christmas morning (goal = 400 toys)! Our holiday hope campaign will begin on Monday, December 9th and go through Thursday, December 19th. Please donate new, unwrapped toys. There will be a collection box located in the front hallway. As part of our holiday hope campaign, students will be learning about homelessness and the important role of homeless shelters. Our staff also looks forward to participating in the holiday hope campaign by donating toys and time to the shelter. Please see the flyer below for more information about this and the Violet Township Fire Department Toy Drive. Thanks for your continued support of all we do here at Violet to help our students grow as kind, helpful, and caring individuals!

The Holiday Shoppe for students will be at Violet from December 11-13. Flyers were sent home with students this week. The shoppe will be located in Violet's Media Center and students will have an opportunity to shop with their class on a specific day and time. Teachers will let you know the day/time their class will attend. Gifts will be priced for a child's budget, ranging from approximately $0.25 to $10.00. There will also be Family Night hours on December 11th from 5:00-7:00 and additional shopping hours before Movie Night on Friday, December 13th from 4:30-6:00.
