Mission Elementary
Riding the Wave of Excellence!
May 21, 2023
It filled my heart with many positive emotions to see our fifth grade students return from camp on Friday. Many of the students came up to me to express their gratitude for the experience. I pay that expression of gratitude forward by also thanking parents and everyone who supported this effort (Ms. Ceballos, Mr. Hartz, Mr. Brian, and Mr. Espinoza). We will share some highlights of the trip in future newsletters.
Our fourth grade students are benefiting from participating in cup-stacking activities during recess! Special recognition to the organization Save our Streets and Mr. Godinetfor providing this fun time and use of coordination skills for our students.
This week our 3rd, fourth, and fifth grade students will participate in Health and Human Development. Our recommendation is that students ask a safe adult any questions they may have about the instruction. Thank you for being the safe adult. Pertinent information about Health and Human Development can be found here.
Please save the date! Our Open House is Wednesday, May 31. Classroom visits will be from 5:30pm- 6:30pm. We will also have community partners including ASAP providing opportunity for parents to enroll students for the 2023-2024 after school program.
We welcome Ms. Chantel Rothenburger to Mission! Be sure to say hello to her in the morning as you drop off your students and please read a bit more in our Community School Updates included in this newsletter.
This week we celebrate Classified Staff Week! Classified staff include our paraprofessionals. our office staff, our custodians. recess/duty supervisors, and nutriton services. We couldn't support students without their dedication. Should your student wish to recognize a classified staff in any way, here is a list I shared earlier this month that includes their favorite things.

OUSD NEWS
OPD Traffic Support at all OUSD Schools
Starting this week, you may be seeing an increase in police presence around our schools. Oceanside Police Officers will go by schools during drop off and pick-ups to monitor traffic. They cannot be at every school daily but will rotate around the city. This will not be a mandatory enforcement detail but an observation, education, and last resort, enforcement. We want everyone to be safe, especially around our schools and we appreciate our partnership with OPD.
