School board votes to retain book as choice in curriculum
The school board voted to allow “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexis to remain a choice in the curriculum for secondary students. This vote supports a recommendation by the Reconsideration Committee and superintendent. The parent can further appeal the decision to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Superintendent Kacer reviewed Covid numbers in the state and county, along with a slide showing the rate/level of transmission in Polk Co, according to the CDC. She then gave an update on Math MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and provided a postsecondary update on what the district is doing to help students learn about college and careers.

The oath of office was administered to Lynn Meadows as Board Secretary and Ryan Eidahl as Board Treasurer.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Board meetings are held in person at the District Office, 6510 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston. All public comments must be read in person. The board meetings are livestreamed and available on demand at https://team1sports.com/johnston/. The next board meeting will be held Jan. 10, starting at 6 p.m.
