Updates for the Week
Hello Wilkesboro families! It’s been a week of weird weather, and we miss our Wilkesoro students. We are calling tonight with some updates for the week of January 22-26. You can find full details by clicking on your teacher's page below.
As a reminder, tomorrow, Monday, January 22 is a teacher workday for required professional development. There is no school for students. At this point, we have not yet been notified of make up dates for the days missed last week.
We look forward to having everyone back at school on Tuesday. Tuesday will now be the last week of the second quarter, and we will continue with important mid-year benchmarks to see how students are learning and growing. This week, we will send home report cards for the second quarter. We we will send home mid-year benchmark assessment results later in February.
We are now accepting sign ups for our pre-k for the 2024-2025 school year. If your child will be 4 on or before August 30, 2024 AND if you live in the WES area, your child is eligible for pre-k screening. We will be conducting screening on Monday, March 4, and you must sign up in advance. Students must be screened in order to be eligible to apply for pre-k. Our program is popular and fills up quickly, so please call our office soon at 336-838-4261 if interested to sign up for a screening time and to get more enrollment details. https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1868656
We’d like to let you know that we are currently taking orders for our 2024 yearbook. The cost is $25, and we will only order yearbooks for those who order in advance. We sent home flyers last week, and you can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from the Strawbridge website. Orders will be accepted through March 15. You can find full details on our Eagle Connection page and our school website: https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1871573
On Friday, we will have a special green and gold spirit day to celebrate our WE spirit! Please wear your green and gold as we engage in this friendly class competition, and our PTO will reward the class with the most spirit. We also will celebrate January birthdays on Friday.
We appreciate your patience with the weather cancellations and delays we’ve experienced in the past few weeks. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday. Thank you, and have a great evening!
PTO Online Store Open with New Stuff!
Our WES PTO has an online store where you can buy WES shirts, sweatshirts, and products. Recently, they've added toboggans and vintage WES gear.
This store will run continuously through the rest of the school year. Orders will be pulled each month on the second Monday of the month. Depending on when the order is placed it may take up to 4 - 5 weeks to receive your order. Once orders are pulled they will be processed within 10 - 12 business days. PTO members will deliver products directly to your child's classroom.
You can find the online store at the link below.

We Need Volunteers!
We welcome volunteers to help with school events. WCS uses Volunteer Tracker to help organize this process, and we use Sign Up Genius (shared via email and ClassDojo) to make signing up easy and convenient. To get signed up, follow steps below.
1. Go to www.wilkescountyschools.org
2. Go to the PARENTS tab at the top (or VOLUNTEER at the bottom).
3. Click on VOLUNTEERS.
4. Click on VOLUNTEER TRACKER.
5. Go to the green NEW REGISTRATION and follow instructions from there.
Level 1 volunteers can help in many ways. Level 1 volunteers can sign up to help with book fairs, school events, class parties and projects, Field Day, Fall Festival, and proctoring for tests.
Level 2 volunteers can do all level 1 tasks but can also help chaperone field trips and work more closely with students in small groups. Level 2 volunteers can also sign up for classroom tutoring and assistance, reading buddy program, tutoring, leading after school activities, and chaperoning school events field trips.
We ask that all parents/guardians who plan to attend field trips sign up to be Level 2 volunteers at the start of the year. It takes a few weeks to verify volunteers, and signing up early will make sure that you are approved in time for this year’s events and field trips.
Car Line Helpers Needed!

About Attendance
School starts at 7:50 each day. Students who are participating will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes the next day and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. Written notes are required and can come directly from the parent/guardian or a medical office. Also note that ClassDojo messages are great for communicating an absence, but they do NOT serve as legal documentation of absences. Please send a written note. Thanks in advance for your help!
