Social Studies:

Reading Workshop
Students are continuing to read intensely and grow ideas, with a focus on growing ideas about characters. To do this, students are looking for patterns in a character’s actions to help grow ideas about the type of person their character is. They are also noticing times when the character’s actions do not fit the pattern, which signals a change. Important details to focus in on are the character’s desires (wants), how they struggle to get what they want (problem), and how the struggle is resolved.
*If your student does not have realistic fiction books to read at home, they may check out a book at the CCES library to help support them in continuing this reading work.
Writing Workshop
Students have developed characters, planned how their stories will go using a story arc, and are now in the process of drafting their realistic fiction stories! We are working to hook readers with our leads and keep readers interested by showing, not telling what characters are doing and feeling. The goal is to focus on writing scenes instead of summaries by including action, dialogue, and setting.
Contact Cards
Our conduct cards are used to ensure we're preparing our students to grow, and become independent and responsible. With that being said, conduct cards go home everyday. We need these signed weekly every Wednesday.
Students will get the opportunity to cash in for a coupon after two weeks. In order to cash in for a coupon, the students must have three or less marks, as well as the card being signed on each side.
