Valley Park Elementary Library Spring 2014

April is National Poetry Month

K-5th grade Valley Park students have been studying poetry all this month. Kindergarteners have been creating "I am" poems. The first and second graders have been creating Spring acrostic poems. Our third through fifth grade students have been exploring poetry books, websites and creating their own original works! We have some very talented poets at VPE!

Poem in Your Pocket Day

It's coming up soon! On Thursday, April 24th, be sure to have a poem ready to share with your classmates on this fun day! I can't make up my mind which poem to share. I may have to wear big pockets that day!

Mark Twain Readers

Congratulations to all the 4th and 5th grade students that participated in the Mark Twain Reading program. The Winner of the Missouri vote was The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann. Also, congratulations to Maggie Menley and Michele Manegre. They have read all 12 Mark Twain nominees and will be having a special lunch on May 19th! Way to go girls!

Show Me Readers

Well, almost 100 of our first through third grade students can't be wrong! Valley Park's favorite book, Painter and Ugly by Robert Blake also won the Missouri vote. Congratulations Mr. Blake!

Summer Reading

On Wednesday, May 7th we will have a representative from St.Louis County Library here to share with information with our first through fifth graders about their Summer Reading Programs! Our kindergarten students will have their visit on Friday, May 2nd. See Mrs. Custard for more information.

On May 21st, our wonderful reading teachers are hosting a Summer Reading Kick-Off event. Doors open at 6:15. Come for book swaps, giveaways, and a giant bouncy slide. You might even meet a furry friend or two. Can't wait to see you there!
