The Challenge of Learning to Read

Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), is professional development for educators responsible for improving K-12 instruction in reading, writing, and spelling.
Module 1: The Challenge of Learning to Read – Explores the nature of skilled reading: the progression of reading development; the reasons why many children do not become good readers; the influences of biological, linguistic, environmental, and instructional factors in learning to read; and the components of effective reading instruction.
Educators who work for LEAs in the AIU3 region will have priority registration
- There is no cost for this training. Workbooks will be provided free of charge for educators within the AIU3 school districts and charters only
- 5.5 ACT 48 hours available
* Participation in Module 1 is a prerequisite for later modules.
Target Audience: K-2 General Education Teacher, K-12 Special Education Teachers, Reading Specialists, Interventionists, ESL Teachers, educators and administrators interested in literacy.
